Wanted to open a topic, as there wasn’t one, regarding the mana of disc priests in m+. I’ve been running some keys lately and one of the greatest pressures on me was not incoming damage but actually drinking.
The keys ranged from +16 to +24, both pugs and guildies. I believe I am as close to my maximum mana regen capabilities as I can be, using Power Word: Solace, Coastal Mana Pots and Lucid Dreams major on cooldown whenever possible.
A resto druid friend of mine was streaming for me through discord and I saw his mana never dip below 70% on a +21. We are roughly equal Item Level.
My Solace usage can likely be better but I somehow doubt that will make me jump from having 0% every pull to 70%. He wasn’t using Lucid Dreams major or Coastal Mana pots.
I find this a bit frustrating as I feel like my healing is there but I am bringing my party down by levitating around 20% at the start of every pull (I exclude Sugar Crusted FIsh Feasts from the discussion as they will soon be obsolete)
What do you do to make your mana management easier in mid-high m+ keys?
What would you like to see improved?
What would you like to see borrowed from other classes?
I heal on Hpriest, and while i rarely run oom, i find myself drinking a lot more compared to other healers, more so after pre-patch.
My suggestion would likely involve Hymn of Hope buff, as it currently refunds too little mana considering its a pretty long CD and a channeled spell. i sometimes have to cancel the channel due to RNG mechanics.
Or simply nerf the mana cost on frequently used spells?
I haven’t really noticed any mana issues for myself ( though I have only done a handful of keys in prepatch with only 1 being a +20).
It could possibly be being forced into unoptimal gameplay by your groups. I would suggest looking at your spell usage after a run to see that your casts are going on. You could even compare this against groups with the same or similar set ups on WCL.
Op is asking for disc. I dont think any change they would be willing to make to Symbol of Hope would make it better in M+, as it is group utility (though a poor one).
I’m unsure what exactly it is, but I do feel like my mana does run out quicker than before. It might be due to spells like Mind Blast being expensive compared to Smite and other weird tweaks that I don’t think to take into consideration.
This I feel, but its been similar at the end of previous expansions in the prepatch. Where there isn’t a nerf to content but player power seems increased.
They warned me about you in another thread and I can see they were definitely correct. Disc isnt bad, its very strong. If you are struggling to play it I advise you practice and get better. If its other players you have experienced are bad then you should find better people to play with if they are not up to your standards.
If you think you are right though, please provide evidence of disc being bad
As any healer if I’m lower than the tank I dont care, in a good group I expect to be lower than the tank as people are avoiding damage/ccing/interrupting. The 2 tanks i play with are usually above me on various classes in higher keys. They are taking the majority of the damage and they self-sustain so I can also do dps. This is as disc ~ 2k and holy pala ~ 2.8k.
That’s not evidence, that’s you not forgetting bad players you played with. If disc was bad in m+ it would barely have any representation at mid/high keys or barely played in mythic raids.
Again you should play with better players with your standards or join better groups.
