So i finally finished the story of midnight.
I wish i didnt. Cancelled my recurring sub, and sobbed a little. What have you done to my boy? This game was important to me, spent 20 years. I met my wife through wow and we are happily married for 9 years now. I cant believe it. I wish WoW died, i wont elaborate further.

sadly itâs a setting written by people with utter contempt for what the setting used to be, who have hijacked it in such a way as to erode any meaningful differences between the various playable races
a lot of those differences were exactly what resonated with many people and funnily enough, the game had no issue breaking into the mainstream and becoming a household name back in the golden era of prosperity
now? itâs a parody of its former self
again and again we see characters and plot points that had a fitting send off and conclusion brought back to defile
iâm gonna take my own advice and vote with my wallet at this point, between what theyâve done to gilneas and quelâthalas my interest in my favourite playable races has waned almost completely

The saddest part is that no Windrunner dies. They should all be written off to end that story forever.

I am rather sure even if the writers would want to they are not allowed to do so, as they are to valuable for the brand.
iâm not convinced that they are
theyâre very divisive characters and characters with equal or even greater levels of popularity have been written off in a fairly clean manner - like arthas - only to be brought back solely as some sort of weird humiliation ritual

Someone said that the writers write like they hate this story so much.
I am starting to believe it.

Except for Vereesa perhaps, they couldâve made her retire and become a gardener, which is what she was before the wars started.
Youâre not the first to bring up this dillusional opinion.
And it breaks up the moment you recall, that Arthas, Varian and Garrosh, far more universally beloved characters than any of Windrunners were killed off permanently. And it was okay, because they had giga good stories and generally satisfying ending.
With âToo valuable for a franchiseâ you can end up never killing popular character in place and eventually utterly eroding the value of the story.
Look at Khadgar, Tyr, they brough them back and they do nothing, physical theyâre alive, but storywise theyâre honestly more dead than they used to. Tyr was a sacred figure for paladins and mankind in general, for his staunch fight against old gods, excellent morals and ultimate sacrifice. in DF we revived him and now he is just standing there, doing nothing.

Marketing needs to be bullied out of the writers room.
They finally managed to get HR to exit the kitchen with more skin exposure mogs but now it feels like Marketing just barged in and said hey youâre dealing with us now.

Well, they need to be flamed into oblivion for this pathetic campaign of an expansion that had serious potential.
Totally killed my hopes for The Last Titan.

Just out of curiosity⌠what were those hopes? I personally always had a hard time with a concept that would once again pit us against way too powerful super cosmic foes in an unconvincing way, ending in a predictable deus ex Worldsoul. But Iâll admit to some pessimistic biases here, so what would a more positive outlook have promised?
Well, I hoped that Azeroth would pop up and end this cosmic drama once and for all so we can return to our own little skirmishes and side stories.
But as the story is evolving, it seems like there will be no conflict left to deal with among ourselves. Everything is erased fast and itâs probably the last expansion that will have factions.

Someone mentioned before:
âI woke up in my apartment room in Silvermoon and the void attacked. I had my breakfast and the void was on the backfoot. Went to walk the dog and I saw we were the elves united. Had my dinner and the void was beaten. Went to sleep and everything and everyone was okay."
Kinda true.

99% of the time when people insist that a character is too valuable to kill off, what they really mean is that the character is their husbando, blorbo or waifu (to use the appropriate terminally online terms)
they donât realise just how big of a turn off it is for such characters to be forced front and centre with minimal to no consequences for even the most reprehensible of actions, let alone the bizarre lengths the story goes to in order to try and reframe them as victims at the expense of, well, their actual victims
these people destroy franchises and beloved IPâs but theyâre extremely vocal and many individuals quite rightly donât want to deal with them directly so they just leave after a while

Iâm going to go ahead and assume itâs Sylvanas you are refering to.
There is a very clear distinction here between having a character at the forefront of the story and just having it at all.
See, it has no bearing on you if my favorite NPC sits there idly in Undercity. You can choose from any of the remaining races and cultures that suits your taste.
Iâm all for purging old characters if decent replacements are already in place. In most cases, this doesnât happen.
The argument that not killing characters that have been in the spotlight is killing the game doesnât hold on its own. Most of the old NPC cast has done enough atrocities to deserve death. A cataclysm is required to purge all of them, leaving the game empty and souless. If you just have the Windrunners in mind alone, that is selective outrage. Sorry.
The issue can be solved much easier, by just retiring said characters for a while. Simple and it satisfies everyone.
not just sylvanas, no
but mostly her, yes
at the end of the day multiple playable races had large parts of their story written to be in deep opposition to sylvanas in particular - the worgen, for example, lost their homeland to the banshee queenâs invasion, countless loved ones killed, including their crown prince (who was very popular and well liked)
this is in addition to sylvanas ignoring garroshâs order to not make use of the plague
and thatâs not even getting into what she did to the night elves lol
sheâs an awful character who stuck around long after it made sense to make her pay for her atrocities, plus itâs weird when the story now claims that X, Y or Z is âunforgivableâ but those events pale in comparison to what is swept under the rug to prop up familiar faces
much of the racial lore and cooler aspects of the setting have been written out specifically to justify keeping the windrunners around, itâs really lame

Again, this is an issue on Blizzardâs part and not the Sylvanas fans per se.
This became a problem when the main story was streamlined into one campaign, forcing players from both sides to deal with her.
A forsaken fan has no issues burning a night elf tree and frankly why would they? They donât care about the living and certainly not the elves. There is no reason at all why theyâd be mad or bothered by the BFA events. Blizzard caused this split between Sylvanas and her people just to sanitize the undead into nice friendly humans. Itâs forced and doesnât make sense.
You can hate her for what she did and frankly thatâs a good thing, healthy even. Yes, you shouldnât have her in your campaign every step of the way, but having something to hate on makes the story less bland and boring.
If we suddenly liked everyone and everything then this game would be really silly.
Hell, if it wasnât for the Sylvanas hate, this forum would be completely dead and I suspect one of the reasons why sheâs still around is because sheâs impactful enough to cause all these discussions. She brings attention to the story, even if itâs the negative kind.
hate sinks have a shelf life and a lot of people who played horde characters werenât interested in the entire faction being hit with the villain bat just to prop up sylvanas (or garrosh)
joffrey is a great character in game of thrones, but the story would be less memorable if he constantly evaded consequences for his actions

Neither was I interested.
In fact most people I know loved Sylvanas exactly where she was, in the shadows.
When she was named Warchief, we hoped that the Forsaken would become more leaning towards the Horde and not for one minute did I believe all this madness was going to unfold.
In fact, many Horde players chose the loyalist path out of spite considering Garrosh and Voljin had both been sacrificed for the sake of plot. We were all disappointed.
I like brutality and bloodshed but not when it becomes detrimental to the faction as a whole.
Well she didnât evade the consequences. She was given a penance and sheâs still onto it. If you just want to see her dead, thatâs fine, but this punishment was given by Tyrande herself.
With the new Nisha quest I believe even harder that part of what they want to do with the current story is solidify the peace even more and basically nullify all conflict, I do not know how else to interpret showing a Vulperan and a Kulâtiran discussing the purge squads in a bar over the enjoyment of a drink just after all the elves made friends.
âbut thereâs still tension!â yeah the french developed this technique where they boil the frog slowly so it doesnât realize its being boiled before its too late to jump out of the pot.
