Which is generally preferred in arena? Any pros/cons over the other?
Both are good.
Kyrian is more telegraphed and obvious, and you are much less likely to catch people off guard with it, as they will immediately use defensive CDs when they see the giant circle on the ground, unless CCed of course. Also, you can be CC’ed yourself for the duration and lose the benefit of the Resonating arrow completely.
Necro is faster and less obvious burst, and harder to prevent since Death Chakram is instant and it also applies Explosive shot. Even if they CC you immediately after you used Death Chakram, the ability itself is like 30K damage and the explosive shot is 15-20K in addition, so overall it’s harder to counter.
Necro provides the highest possible burst of all covenants as there are 3 abilities doing damage at the same time during your burst window: death chakram, explosive shot, and aimed shot/rapid fire, with the least amount of global CDs used. Kyrian gives you the ability to shoot through walls, which in itself is huge.
Another thing to keep in mind is that necro is stronger vs classes with pets (hunter/lock/DK) as death chakram triggers 2 explosive shots due to the legendary effect. This means that if you use it on an unholy DK for example, one explosive shot will be applied to the DK, and one to the pet, and after 3 sec both will explode, dealing damage to both targets. If both crit, it’s sometimes possible to kill the pet in the opener without targeting it since it takes damage from death chakram bounces, the 2 explosive shots, and the trick shots effect of your 4p tier set bonus.
A thing to note about Kyrian is that it boosts both you and your party(10% crit chance from the legendary effect), making it a compelling choice for 3s or double-DPS 2s.
In summary: both are great. Necro is better for lower ratings, unorganized/fast paced games/skirmishes/solo shuffle/when helping someone get arena wins. Kyrian is better for 3s and overall higher ratings and more organized gameplay, where it can boost your party during your bursts, and your party can help you get value out of Rezonating arrow.

I prefer Necro for arena. Necro shield is really useful. And also Death Chakram’s damage can be super high if it crits.
For me Kyrian for pve, Necro for arenas, Venthyr for BGs
