Fellow hunter here, returning after a wee break and decided to try Beastmaster (for a change) and it occurred to me - “WOW! Wouldn’t it be great if we could tame cows? How awesome would a herd of proper dairy cows look bearing down on some hapless alliance player in BGs?! Like all 5 slots filled with udder-shuddering, grass-churning cows”, I chuckled to myself “hahaha LETS DO THIS!”
So I asked el Google if cows were tameable, and herein begins the tale…
AI essentially told me that the only cows available for taming are in the new Eversong Zone around the Suncrown village area! Packing my things I excitedly took to the skies but despite picking my way through every yellow beast-dot on the mini-map, I couldn’t see a single cow. Udderly bereft of bovine.
So I asked AI politely, “Hey, digital-dude, there’s no cows anywhere to be found and in fact I’ve double-checked this information and neither Wowhead or Petopia make a mention of this so, what gives?”
”As this is new content many databases haven’t been fully updated as yet but the likely issue is the Suncrown area has reported phasing issues and only after you finish the main campaign story arc will it phase the surrounding area into peaceful farmlands, where cows and ducks and the likes can be found. Until then it remains riddled with plant infestations.”
Now, Rumtum was still levelling at this point and had hardly touched the campaign (this being one of several characters I’ve levelled ) but I checked on another toon and I’d completed MOST of the campaign, with just the last chapter to do. So double-checking I can skip the campaign on alts, once finished on any character, I spent 2-3 hours on that other char completing the whole thing. Now, truth be told, I was in no rush to do such a thing but I really wanted those cows. So I churned my through the story and once finished excitedly took myself over to Suncrown, but still nothing but plant infestations.
Slightly irate but nonetheless still hopeful I ask “AI, what’s going on. Still no cow, zugzug!”
”If you’re still experiencing issues with this phased area you may need to complete the Tour of Midnight quest steps, as this should finalise the campaign steps required to fully complete Chapter 1 of the Midnight expansion.
“Sweet baby Jesus, OK…”
So I go around these 4 zones completing the tasks, which all in took about 2-3 hours, again. I go back to the cow spot and STILL NAE C
WS!
“AI WTF? I’ve spent literally 6 hours doing all of this, on your advisement, after careful consultation, to get cows, and there’s still no cows here. What’s going on?!”
You know what it says to me?
“Ahh I’m very sorry, it seems what has happened is I have suffered what’s called an AI hallucination and rather than double check my data, I gave you incorrect information and fake citations and rather than verify that data when you repeatedly asked I instead doubled down, and continued giving you wrong information. Apologies for wasting your time but at this stage there are no tameable cows in Wow.”
TL/DR - if, like me, you appreciate the awesomeness that cows would bring to your stable - don’t bother. They’re not available. =(
