Hey guys, I recently tried healing in bgs after a long period of time not touching the role (since pre shadowlands). Back in the days, I felt healing was a fun and rewarding role to play. My last tries to get back into the role was more than frustrating. I feel like I can’t keep up with the pace. I mean, I’m in my forties and, sure, reflexes are not as good as many younger players, but, man, I feel like healing through that burst is often times impossible for me. I do not have the same issues as dps. When i am playing dps in bgs i can definitely play on par with most other players. Having no problems with damage done or KD ratio. But healing just overwhelms me. It’s a sad thing, cause i really liked it. Was maining monk healer back in Legion, Rdruid back in TBC, rshami back in wrath. Doing a lot of PVP.
Nowadays I just see everything getting bursted left, right and center - and two seconds later i join my mates on the gy and getting flamed for being sh*t. Somehow it just feels stressful, unrewarding and not fun. What are your experiences healing in bgs?
The problem is how overtuned some classes are and can chunk huge parts of your HP in a blink of an eye, and how much the game is based around defensives in those damage windows. You basically have to rely on your target that you are trying to heal through that he is smart enough or realizes whats going on to pop a defensive in order to survive. Raw healing alone might not cut it in that situation. Its not like the old days where there werent that many modifiers that could ramp up damage this high. If you saw a mage preparing a shatter combo - that was it. That was his highest damage potential. If you saw a warlock chaos bolting - that was it. Now you have to be like “does the warlock have overfiend + diabolist procs lined up?”, for example. How are you supposed to have knowledge of this? You can’t really.
Problem with healing, is that you are reliant on having good dps that know how to play and can pressure the enemy team. More pressure on the enemy team = less pressure on your team = easier time healing.
Healers themselves are ridiculously overpowered, so thats definitely not the issue. Personally I don’t find healing at its core that hard, especially with all these easily available instacasts, the problem lies elsewhere.
I would almost say younger folks don’t play unrated pvp that much rather rated > shuffle blitz. Its also safe to assume newer generations aren’t that attracted to wow and its inbalance in general. If you have the skill to play egoshooters or mobas somehow in the middle field you dont play unrated pvp in an mmo.
Ignore them. Its a teamplay bracket, not your job to play the game alone with zugzug tunnelvision ppl or worse the second healer being low geared or doing god knows what.
Wow is simply a metaslave game. Playing anything but the current thing of the month/season you are already behind. You don’t have certain cooldowns like class xyz you are already behind, hps in its pure form can only compensate for missing “decent”cds till your mana and global cooldown management breaks down and it will at one point.
Went from healer main to boomy this addon, had a few comeback rounds as a healer with clearly not bis stats and was doing fine, thought as well i might be needing some refreshment/training but surprisingly i still have it :> Don’t sweat it if you truly have no fun just play dps for now and try healing again in s1 in midnight which is always the most inflated season with most games played, you will have way more balanced rounds when it comes to dps/hps difference between both teams.
