I’ve gone through a lot of posts about Fire Mage here on the forums, and they all say pretty much the same thing.
Fire is in a really bad spot and needs changes, mostly due to the recurring topic of Phoenix Flames.
I haven’t played a lot of Fire previously, but I can definitely see where the problems come from.
I’m currently playing the Frostfire hero talents, and it seems like there are a few issues around mostly spamming Frostfire Bolt on single target — even going so far as to not use Pyro under 30% with the execute talent. The idea I have revolves around the Frostfire hero talents, so I’m sorry I can’t really provide any suggestions for the Sunfury option.
I don’t really know much about numbers balancing, so that’s obviously up for debate.
The idea goes as follows:
-
Reduce Frostfire Bolt damage by roughly 25%.
-
Make Frostfire Empowerment cause Frostfire Bolt to act like Fire Blast — off the global cooldown and always crit. Or at least count as a crit without the full damage. Proc chance could be adjusted.
-
Remove the 15% critical strike chance for Frostfire Bolt on Frostfire Infusion and replace it with something else, maybe something like 3% global critical strike damage.
This would directly affect a lot of the problems mentioned in the posts I’ve read:
-
The one-button rotation on bosses.
-
The hard stops and lack of smoothness in the normal rotation, mostly due to losing instant casts like Phoenix Flames.
-
It would also help with the global cooldown issue when using instant Frostfire Bolt during Combustion if running out of Blast charges.
This might be a dumb post since it doesn’t really address any issues people might run into with the Sunfury hero talents, but I’d still be interested to hear what people think.
