New forums!

Hey fezellas,

We're getting new forums in appr. 5 hours! Only a few threads will be migrated to the new forums, so it's advisable to necro old threads you think are valuable.

Hope to see you guys on the other side!

Let's take the time to say goodbye to the old forums, and prepare ourselves for eight hours or silence.

I'm really not sure what that be on the story forum especially. A best of "Purge of Dalaran", "Garrosh did nothing wrong" "Sylvanas is evil" and "Why the other faction deserves to be wiped out"? Or should we look for memes to save, like the greymanian fluffpuppies, erm, the Church of Greymane?

Oh, and goodbye, forums! I liked the old style better!
We better start necro'ing all the threads about Greymane.

Necroing threads goes against the terms of use and the code of conduct.

Some of us have already experienced back in Wrath, what it’s like to have a new forum. And we didn’t miss most of the old threads.

New ones will rise as substitutes.

What is worrying is the nature of said forums and the system they use....
Don’t know if people have actually taken a moment to look at what the new rules imply.

Is anyone else scared that a little bit too much of power might be given to the posters in regard to reporting? I mean... Will it be enough to force someone out of the forums just if enough players report that person? Which means that every organised group could just remove anyone they don't like?

While I wouldn’t put it that way, there are some terms such as a limited number of posts per day, privileges depending on popularity, or penalties regarding superfluous comments (timeouts etc)
Yeah, that’s some kind of risky business.

It removes the need of moderator interventions (to some extent), but greatly affects some freedom regarding posts.

For those familiar with it, it follows the same structure and rules as the OW forums.
just make new threads after the migration.
I doubt that anything of value will be lost.
We want to reward users who are positively contributing to the forums. Over time, these players will be rewarded with the ability to post more often, embed images/links, and more.

This is what I was talking about. This is VERY risky.

Here, the US forum thread about all this:

That's correct, and it's indeed very risky.

From what I've seen, after browsing the forums for, say, 15 minutes you'll get the same priviliges as we have here now. What I'm concerned about is that Blizzard will offer too many tools to kill the opinion of some posters. There have been cases of unsincere mass-reports leading to suspensions, and it;'s getting easier to do so now.

I am in the "wait and see" group here, but I'm still concerned.

I feel that’s not the important issue (it’s still one).

What I feel worrisome is how they seem to plan on rewarding posters depending on their popularity.
To expand what I mean: you don’t have to be right, insightful, or even coherent, you might need just to be ‘funny’.
That could be enough to grant you privileges over the rest on the long run. For starters you could start being able to post more often than the rest.

I think that can lead to some serious diminishing of the quality of the discussions to be had. And risks turning this into some cheap popularity contest.
Not that it wasn’t marginally so already, but this system does seem to reward it.

But hey, maybe these new forums do work and it’s just some overly dramatic reaction to changes. We’ll see soon enough.
The system would be this one: https://us.forums.blizzard.com/en/heroes/t/new-forum-syntax-guide-details-about-trust-levels/380 ?
Doesn't read that bad....

Though I guess flagging can always be abused, I don't really see how it would actually be different from the flagging system we already have here. Could someone elaborate? Why would mass flagging be easier than now?
I just wish they give us some better options, such as actual spoiler tags, and option to link actual images.

and option to link actual images.

If they do it like describted in the link I posted... at trust level 3, the forum elite (todays MVPs), you would get the right to "Post animated gifs, images, compatible video embeds, and links to any website".

Get to trust level 3 by…

  • Must have visited at least 50% of last 100 days
  • Must have replied to at least 10 different topics
  • Of topics created in the last 100 days, must have viewed 500 topics
  • Of posts created in the last 100 days, must have read 20,000 posts (both starting posts and replies)
  • Must have received 20 likes, and given 30 likes.
  • Must not have received more than 5 spam or offensive flags (with unique posts and unique users for each, confirmed by a moderator)
  • Must not have been suspended (including forum suspensions or in-game account actions of any Blizzard game)

  • Not unreachable, but not the norm, I guess.
At least I reached 17k posts first....all of them about Blood Elves of course.
Damn, the post count. Should’ve pumped those numbers...

    Well, 5,5k ain’t bad

Dude, I'm actually horrified how much time I wasted on those forums. But at least I'm not as bad as Sorc.

But then again when you're stuck in boring places with no real access to computer or anything there is nothing better to do anyway.

Well it wasn't time wasted for me...I at least converted some people to the Blood Elves' cause during the years (both here, and on the US forums). Also they know me in other forums like Mmo-champ and Scrolls of Lordaeron.

Also 17k is not that high...there's people around with more than 25 or even 50k.

Keep in mind that you're also exercising your written English here.

Kek, look at Velsy living in denial! You live here, just as we do, admit it.....

And you’ve calmed yourself recently. Back in the golden age with Korae and company you were much more....active.
    How time has passed.

    We are growing old ;(
