PC Build Review

Hey,

I’m returning for Shadowlands and my of gaming laptop isn’t up to it, so I’m looking at speccing a pre-built desktop over the coming week to set me up in time for launch.

So far I am thinking the following:

CPU - Intel Core i5 9400F
GPU- Gigabyte GeForce RTX 2060
RAM- 16GB Vulcan Z T-Force 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 PC4 3000MHz
MBD- B360 DDR4 Motherboard
SSD- WD Blue 3D NAND 500GB 2.5"
HDD- Seagate 1TB 7200RPM Hard Drive

I plan on mythic raiding and would like everything to run smoothly.

My budget is <£1000 so any upgrades would need to be at a similar price point.

Can you please let me know if you see anything which is easily upgraded or seems out of place?

Really appreciate any advice as I’m not up to speed with things having been out of the loop for the past few years!

Thanks,
Áj

Is this for 1080P 60Hz gaming?
If so, i would save on the GPU and get a 1660 Super instead, raytracing will cripple your FPS anyways (2070S here and im not using it).
For the CPU i would recommend waiting for the Ryzen 5600 if possible, this will be a big jump over the 3600 and also the Intel CPUs.
The RAM should be at least 3200Mhz or 3600, with CL at max 16.
Do you really need a mechanical drive? 1GB is not really much anyways.
Maybe get a 1TB SSD instead.

It’s a B360 motherboard, no memory OC and the max may be only 2666MHz.

Well i was talking about the Ryzen 5600

That would make sense, but seeing 9400F I assume it’s a pre-build system. Will 5600X fit in that budget with a decent 3600-4000 MHz RAM ?

Yes, I don’t think I’ll be going 1440p soon.

Will take this advice and drop down to 1660S.

Unfortunately if I wait I’ll miss launch; need to purchase this week!

No option to upgrade further. Will the RAM hurt my performance in the long run?

I can’t get rid of the mechanical drive, however I can now afford a bigger SSD due to the GPU saving.

The Zen 3 CPUs are out in 2 days, 5th of November.

What’s the problem with RAM upgrade? Is it’s a pre-built PC? It can affect like 5-10% FPS depending on scenario. Especially with Ryzen.

Simple SATA SSD is all you need. Like you don’t even have to use more expensive NVME M.2 drives if you want most money efficient solution.

Yeah this is a pre-build and the mix and match parts are restricted.

Cool thank you for the guidance!
