Evil characters in Wrath tend to be the ‘everyone is out for themselves actually, even the so-called good people’ type, and Ember as a genuinely selfless person makes it easy to say ‘…with one exception’ for her.

She is never happy.
Gods, I despise that angle. Especially with roleplaying characters. Yeah, sure hon. Don’t recognise you’re evil because you think everyone is evil or that you’re above it all because of your big brain.
I also have; duskwight elezen (male),
Lady Highlander
both a raen and a xaela au ra (both female)
vena viera
and a female midlander.
EDIT: in a few weeks going to fill my last slot on the server with a lady wildwood elezen.
Doesn’t the vast difference in styles bother you any? I cannot deal with old time fantasy meshed with modern and sci-fi clothes. An inconsistency in aesthetics can really break a setting.
Which isn’t to say some of these don’t look damn swanky.
Not really since a lot of FF games (outside of 14) are a clash between those two cultures.
Normally with the sci-fi stuff being “the big bads” and the old time fantasy being “the good”
And I’ve played my fair share of FF games so it doesn’t bother me because its just part of the course.
EDIT: To name two where there’s a prominent clash, here’s FF10’s modern city;
Compared to the less modern;
Initially the clash was kinda jarring to me, but as time went on I kind of got used to it. Your mileage may vary depending on your tolerance, but imo fantasy and scifi is well enough integrated by now. Besides, the scifi stuff is still basically magic (hence magitek).
I absolutely adore how FFX managed technological elements of the game, making it ‘sinful’ and taboo to the cultures of Spira.
I remember seeing the first cut scene of the Garlean Empire within XIV (containing space ships and futuristic themes) and thinking it was a far cry from the forests I had been questing in. Although jarring at first, I came to accept that it was just how this universe worked.
In retrospect, looking back at previous FF titles, it didn’t seem strange at all.
It’s just too much for me. I won’t be going back to catgirl country for the foreseeable future.
Xaela Au Ra as my main

It’s wrong (both factually and morally) but I can understand it - certainly a lot more than any form of Cosmic/Inherent Evil or moustache twirling that you can get. Most characters you would describe in alignment evil terms that have some depth to them will not think of themselves as such; instead, they’ll be people using maladaptions to trauma or delusions of the world being a place where everyone is as cut-throat as they are.
Regill is the best example of a companion who is Evil but not evil, if you get my meaning. He’s completely ruthless but he’s not cruel for cruelty’s sake.
and sometimes they’ll be just plain old insane which you also get in Wrath
I’ll grant that and if written well, it’s compelling. Many good examples don’t recognise their own monstrosity but the roleplayers doing it are mostly the sort to run on a puddle deep randian/church of satan morality to glibly dismiss notions of Good as they stand in for example D&D.
Their mirror twin is the Good guy who kills at the slightest provocation and advocates torture to bring order to the land but is totally Lawful Good you guys because he’s loyal to his girlfriend(s) and sycophants.
You weren’t invited, Grandma!
Sora is the last smash fighter.
We did it
Mood: you’re trying to lose weight with a lean salad but all your friends are wolfing down the greasiest pizza.
Yes I want it but I won’t subject myself to the baggage. The junk in the trunk. Which is everything else in the catgirl simulator.
I tend to be pretty partial to villain characters who:
Know they’re doing bad things and feel bad about them, then do them anyway.
AND/OR
Have an actually genuinely goodhearted goal but have decided that to achieve this they need to do some really serious violence.
I just won’t play catboy game. Just not my thing. Been enjoying making beavers build little towns and do hydro-engineering.
And I really need to get that one soonish.
