Pet peeves: The return (Part 5)

Well they briefly got rid of pact magic entirely, which sucked. I believe they’re now going back on that after getting appropriate feedback that it sucked. If they don’t, then it’s dumb.

Also they gave warlocks 3 attacks with pact of the blade, which is likewise just really stupid. Yeah warlocks are the ones who need a third attack at 11th. That makes sense.

I only start games from level 3 anyway.

Ironically, I thought subclass normalisation was actually kind of a good idea, even if it wasn’t directly portable between 5+5.5. Rogues getting their second subclass feature at 9th was insane, and I’m not someone who needs the ‘intro levels’ anymore at this stage.

…plus starting at 3rd makes dying to a rando crit less likely.

It makes sense - you then have ranger the half-druid, paladin the half-cleric and warlock the half-wizard - but yeah, it was a unique and cool thing and a shame to see it go

what do you think the artificer is

also bards should be halfcasters again don’t @ me

an arcane cannon with a character attached to it

Not 5e but in our first Pathfinder session a few weeks ago I was 3HP off getting instantly killed by a two handed axe crit.

was this before or after she changed her name

After, though she probably did it before too tbh.

I do that when I start with an experienced party - when bringing in newbies I still start with smaller levels - when folks are completely new to DnD

That said, I agree that normalisation is a good thing in general - what I would change however… is Patron or domain choice doesn’t feel like something you would choose at a later point. Would make sense if at lvl 3 the choice was more along…

Warlocks choosing blade, tome, chain, since all three make your builds very different. And with Clerics it could be something similar? Choosing melee, caster or some other focus. with domain still coming at 1

how do you cancel a god

Usually with an edition change.

How could you be so naive? There is no escape, no recall or intervention can work in this place! Come! Lay down your weapons! It is not too late for my mercy…

Hey you can flag my post for removal because I called out Mystra all you like but it doesn’t change the truth of what she is.

As an elf lover, I never really understood the appeal for half-elves, and I don’t really care for them being or not being in the game, either way.

The really edgy appeal for me is the fact that you have “two homes” but you belong to neither.

Made for some delicious drama and RP over the years of playing my bard.

I like them when they are properly shown as not quite fitting in to either culture but it so rarely happens that it just becomes ‘human with pointy ears and sleep problems’

You’d think “everyone hates shuns you” would result in you getting a charisma penalty instead of a charisma boost (which makes everyone like you more instead).

The way me and the DM handled it back in the wasn’t that the character was more beloved due to charisma, but rather because he’s faced adversity his whole life he’s more equipped at dealing with different situations. Disengaging, dismantling and talking his way out of the situation.

I think that makes all the sense - high charisma doesn’t have to be high likability.

does when it gives you a +1 bonus to your persuasion/performance rolls

(Charisma should either not be a casting stat or not be a face stat, one of the two)
