PTR Spoiler/Discussion Thread (Part 1)

Ridiculous.

Really, really ridiculous.

Shall we demand a rename of Orgrimmar to Orcrimmar, since it’s currently named after a colonising, genocidal racial supremacist?

yeah i agree it’s ridiculous that they named an entire zone after a developer

I like it, but would prefer if it sounded a bit more exotic.

I can’t find it in me to really care one way or the other about mac’aree being renamed but Eredath is kinda like naming your city Humath.

then again they named darnassus after their language of all things so you know what sure why not

I just don’t understand… I mean it’s even named muh-KAH-ree by the NPC’s (and IRL I call it Mek-A-ree), it only has a superficial resembles to McCree or whatever he’s called.

Changing this city’s name is on the same level as taking out Greenskin, just unneeded, weird and seems to just be Blizzard scoring easy goodwill points.

Missing alot of context here.

Orgrimmar’s namesake was a character completly within the universe.

Eredath’s former namesake was a pos creature who abused co-workers. Nothing is lost by renaming it, but positivity comes from doing so.

Very Eredar-core to name your capital after yourselves tbh

Like when draenei landed on another planet and decided to name it, and ousting the old native name.

Eh, Mac’Aree was pronounced in such a way that I never drew the connection to the developer. Ultimately I don’t care particularly much about the change if the name was too similar for comfort to someone, but the various NPCs literally sharing the dev’s name were the greater issue in my books.

I didn’t even know it was named after that guy until the recent troubles within Blizzard came out… heck I never even heard of that guy before.

I mean I guess Elenthas is right and nothing is lost… but stil to me it just seems low effort, easy goodwill.

:man_shrugging:

(Edit while typing, Vervaina said it better then I ever could).

As far as I know orcs and stuff just called Draenor “The World” or whatever. They willingly adopted Draenor as a name, no one forced others to use that name for Draenor.

Dunno why I even went to the Darnassus comparison tbh. I guess that, as with Blizzard, I completely forgot that Gnomeregan already exists.

It always came across a bit egocentrical for me when the big devs put their name all over the games. Like Mcree and Afrisiabi, but in recent memory Morheim too.

There’s that one Stormheim village named it in Legion with an associated WQ where Odyn goes on a tangent about how it was named after a great person.

Really cringe.

This is because the person in charge of directing the voicelines fought tooth and nail to obscure the homage to McCree as much as possible because of what a sex pest he was to his coworkers.

Disagree.

The zone was named after someone that harassed co-workers, greenskin is just an in-universe slur.

These are not the same and saying that they are is weird, at best.

Same, it’s really obnoxious and WoW is the only game I know where it happens this much.

Alot of people didn’t make connection to it, yeah, but since they have come out and openly said that it was meant to be a direct reference and not just an accident, it’s good its changed. People like that do not deserve recognition in such a way.

Even things that seem that are ultimatly benefitial/good in my opinion.

Ah, fair enough I guess.

I mean I dislike the change but it definetly isn’t a hill I am willing to die on and it doesn’t change much in the end.

Mad respect for the person in charge.

Yeah and it’s always been a bit…well, self-obsessed. A couple of other games usually put in little easter eggs and references to the devs/workers, but they don’t then directly namedrop. Instead its often something like, one of them had a pet goldfish or really liked a particular type of cereal, so they shoved that in underneath the map somewhere so you can only find it via noclipping etc.

yeah the way i see it their names are in the credits and that’s quite enough as far i’m concerned really

Well it worked on me at least, though obviously that it should even come to that is just… eurgh. I get so very tired.

Looks like Highmountain are getting a few new fur colors according to the Wowhead stream!
