If those Blizzard guys were movie directors, then the movie would feature a 50 minute scene about some(according to them) ultra-cool womanizer chad character directly named after them and every character would swoon over.
Not too far off from Lothar in the Warcraft movie tbh
“forget old bearded Lothar, this is kickass, sassy, savvy and cool Lothar that has lots of sex and is best friends with everyone”
B…But they’re r… rockstars! Everybody loves rockstars right?
Also.
Nice.
I mean we’re not talking about them renaming a super important zone here. It’s literally one of three mini zones from a Legion patch.
Only reason I could see it being something to be annoyed about is if you’re an ancient draenei RPer but they don’t exist.
Hated it sooo, sooooo much.
I mean Warcraft is a fun movie if you wanna have some brainless fun with recognisable things like Goldshire, murlocs, Stormwind-with-a-Cathedral. But it had so much wrong with it.
It’s a pretty great movie if you quite literally cut out every scene that doesn’t have the orcs in them.
Midwife Gul’dan proclaiming “a new soldier for the Horde” and the invading army cheering their brains out is honestly a really god damn good scene.
I guess it might be a bit awkward IC for a while? Not everyone is likely to keep tabs on changes like this, and having to correct others on lore OOC is always a bit jarring to me personally.
Probably no big deal, but I’m quite glad my own character didn’t hail from Macree’Thalas.
you know, that really is nice
YOu know what grinds my gears about the draenei? THe fact that they went from thousands of years on Draenor (or hinted at) to just 200 years.
But in those 200 years they built basicly the greatest civilisation on Draenor, with cities, villages and outposts almost everywhere. While bieng refugees of refugees of refugees and having a super small population.
Now they need to give you and the humans updated Paladin mounts though, tbf. Or better yet, give Blood Knights a Blood Knight Hawkstrider (HD ofcourse, when they update all the old class and race mounts).
A cautionary tale surely. Azeroth should expect the rise of a gnome empire within the next century or two.
The setting needs more of this to be honest. Every culture being 92837423947 years old is really dumb and lazy, because it’s just [important event happened thousands of years ago and then rest of their history is blank where literally nothing happened].
The game needs more fleshing out what happened in the last couple of centuries and how it shapes modern culture. Look at your own country’s history in the past 300 years and how much has happened in that time.
Oh, I get that histories need to be fleshed out, but that doesn’t per se have to be at the cost of making their histories shorter.
I am certain they (we, others) could come up with alot of things that’d have happened on Draenor or Azeroth between the myriad races that could easily fill up (ingame) history books.
Not as much as you’d think.
Lost the southern part of our country, got democracy (without abolishing the monarchy), got Germans everywhere, lost our colony in the east, one of our nations left the kingdom (without the people really wanting it in either the kingdom or that nation) and now we’re here.
The night elves really suffer from this I feel. The long vigil is just unnecessarily long and I really wish it wasn’t 10 000 years.
I mean, lets remember that the Eredar exiles named their new home planet after themselves (Draenor)
The Tauren too. They shoehorned in Yaungol just to give them a fleshed out reason for existing, but they’re basically almost as old as Night Elves.
What about the Pandaren? “Mogu everywhere, ???, we fought to free ourselves, ???, fought of the trolls, ???, hid during the WotA, ???, some pandaren left on a turtle, ???, we fought of the Sha, ???”
History of Pandaria summed up.
Yet without fleshing those out, 10000 years is an absurdly long amount of time that’s just empty and that’s lazy. Making something uber mega ancient and leaving it at that is not worldbuilding.
Still more important events than in the night elf, zandalari, pandaren and draenei histories.
Yeah oke, but that’s been a case of Blizzard bieng Blizzard for… decades now.
Even the humans and orcs don’t have that much fleshed out history.
Chronicle 2 at least made a reasonable attempt to flesh out the last couple centuries of Orcish history, and made the brave choice of making their entire race 800 years old. Humans in turn received about 100 years of Stormwind history.
Well, ofcourse the Titans would be very interested in… the gnoll wars! “What, other nations exist? NO idea man”.
Also, how could the Titans™ know of the history of orcs when there aren’t Titan facilities on Outlands/Draenor?
Book was fun when it was the lore bible, not it’s an all around mess…
