It’s rather disappointing that they pass it off as a Kirin Tor staff, though. Maybe they should just have updated the staff guard npcs use.

It may be that the Kirin Tor has started to use NB weaponry too.
Alternatively, developers have no idea about the worldbuilding of Warcraft and this is an obvious problem: looking at you, Queen Calia.
I. . .think its just meant to be a cool weapon model used as a pre-patch gear boost item. I don’t think its too deep or intentionally malicious. There’s no point in them designing new kirin-tor-esque weapons for a pre-patch event.

Suppose lorewise you could explain it away with trade of knowledge and items between Suramar and Dalaran, since they were basicly neighbours for 7-ish years?

I suppose those could be explanations, but I think them rather feeble ones. I find it hard to believe that a kingdom of mages haven’t perfected their own preferred design for mage staves.
Of course they’re just meant to be cool weapon models, but when the other weapons are clearly themed, it’s impossible not to notice this apparent lapse in judgement. No one was talking about intended malice. It’s a bit of a fumble, at worst.
Nor did I ask for that, though I think there definitely is a point to that if the opening sequence is all about Dalaran.

As great as they look it’s all so human/Alliance. I wonder what’s in store for Horde races because so far it’s all just Alliance storylines.

Talanji is also not datamined (yet), suggesting that her inclusion in that one screenshot was indeed as a placeholder - perhaps for the unique model dark troll character who may or may not be their leader.
I heard rumours about a Goblin raid? So I guess we’ll see a more Horde centric cast there?

Current state of the Bilgewater Cartel with Gazlowe as boss? Unionised Goblins and if they perhaps butt heads with the other Cartels?
Will have to see how the Darkspear heritage questline is, praying for less Nelf/Gilnean and a lot more Orc in quality 
Just… yeah, other than the overarching expac plots, there’s so many good options/hooks there?

this i would actually be interested in seeing rn.
i would love this but given the usual reactions to new characters being “god this is just a worse version of ” id be cautiously optimistic about it. though genuinely if theres a time for new blood to come in it’d be now. the likes of genn stepping back was a good idea in that regard. dont write out the old characters entirely just have them do their work more in the background now.

A proper reset with older characters fading more into the background, and the PC having a new cast to interact with as we level from 1-cap would be very welcome idea, IMO. Not talking ‘Buddying with Faction Leaders’ like has been the norm/problem before, but characters we’re on a level with. Our allies/levelling companions.
Grimaxe/Garrick and co work fantastically as characters that are varied and we get to know from the tutorial/should be levelling up as we do. And then you can add in other characters across the factions, such as Taelia, Kaja and Rakera, etc for a broader, recurring cast.

coming from gw2, and knowing the all too vocal oppinions on its cast, they had a good idea of an established cast the PC was close with and got to know over the years. when you actually give it some time, thought, attention and development its a dynamic that really works and could work for wow.
