Can we please get some information on whether this issue is expected to carry over into Midnight? It seems all the characters I would like to pick my main from are bricked because of this bug.
I belive its an intended bog from bliz.
Additional data point: my Champion level delve has been normal for a little while now, but the hidden trove from the bounty was yet another staff. I haven’t dared look in my great vault from last week yet, but I know it’s going to be at least two staves.
Why two? Well, the third slot I unlocked is Veteran gear only since I only ran 4 tier 11 delves on my main. And my theory is that the bug only affects loot that would be a significant number of item levels above what I have. So the Veteran item in the vault should be properly random.
My current average item level is exactly 145, which puts it at one item level above fully upgraded champion loot. I think that could potentially be why Champion loot became “normally random” again. Heroic loot is still stuck at only dropping staves.
I have been wrapping up my TWW quest lines, getting some mounts and transmogs etc and now have 7 level 80 characters. My subscription ends in a week and I fortunately didn’t buy a copy of Midnight. I have never witnessed WoW as buggy as it is now and I have been playing since 2005.
My situation is unchanged. This week’s vault was once again all wrists and helmets, and the drop from the delve map chest was also a helmet.
Since I bought early access I’d really like to know whether I should even bother leveling my characters…
I’m on early access and just did my first 3 delves on my warlock - which only got offhands in delves and vaults the last couple of weeks in TWW - and got a 3 offhands so far. So big surprise, the bug has carried into Midnight. It’s kinda impressive Blizz are aware of it and didn’t fix it in time. Takes some A grade incompetence not being able to fix such a little but yet damaging bug
Can confirm; I am also still only getting the same type of loot from delves now in Midnight.
Still have the same problem in Midnight early access. Only helmets
So can we get any confirmation on whether you are working on fixing this bug? Or am I going to have to abandon my main of over 20 years?!
To be honest, we have gotten more blue response here in the EU than in the US, unless I’m mistaken.
I think the question is if the developers see this matter as serious enough to gain priority over important matters such as level 80’s being able to equip green BoEs meant for level 90 players etc.
I feel like I’m drowning in bugs on my account. Losing Wrathion and Sabellian reputation felt like a “final straw” to me. That issue/bug was introduced in 2024 and they still haven’t done anything to fix it for the affected players. There are tons of annoying bugs that puzzle and annoy players every day and they are just there - never fixed. My point being: a lot of stuff is broken and isn’t getting fixed. Ever.
The main difference is that it seems like this issue is going to affect quite a lot of very long time players who may be involved in “race to world first” kind of stuff and at this stage of Midnight, delve loot does matter. So, I think there’s a glimmer of hope that this may be considered important enough to fix.
Eventually AI will be able to safely fix issues like this. I think the “safely” part isn’t quite there yet for a project as complicated as WoW. But things may change once we reach that point: bugs will actually get fixed and affected players may actually end up being helped. Even AI GMs will probably replace the poor humans and will have abilities beyond what current GMs have. But this is probably still at least a year away.
On the delve loot: My main/mage about half a dozen chestpieces this week (still don’t know about the great vault). Nice change from the staves I was getting and at least I got a champion tier chest with leech on it, so there was one upgrade. Just TWW delves, which btw gave me Midnight achievements for doing delves up to tier 3 (on completion of a tier 11 TWW delve). I don’t even have Midnight. Yet. Another. Bug. (Fortunately it’s one I couldn’t care less about…)
The crest trade achievements seem to have gotten “archived” this week as I wasn’t able to get the gilded of the ethereal and the weathered crest achievement on my evoker etc. My guess is that TWW upgrades will stop working soon, but do we even have a clearly announced date for that?

Update: My main mage had 3 chestpieces in the Great Vault. So this week was all chests and nothing else unless I’m mistaken. My second mage started getting staves this week and every delve loot was a staff (5 of them). Both mages are now “borken”. The other 5 level 80 characters seem to be OK.
So, a character that was OK for a few weeks can “get stuck”. I have no idea how/why.
I’m aware. If it wasn’t clear from the context of my post I was looking for more clarification than “it’s being looked into” and “no updates”. Because as far as I can see those are the only responses. “it’s being looked into” can mean different things. It can mean that a developer has been assigned to initial analysis to determine if it is indeed a bug and if so how severe it is etc. It could also mean that a developer is actively working on fixing it. It’s ambiguous. I myself have “looked into” many many bug reports over the years in my career and some of those are probably still on the backlog…
The post I’m responding to is now 8 days old and I have seen no news about whether this is fixed. I have zero motivation to play this expansion. I got half way to 90 and just logged off. Why even bother if I’m going to be severely limited in the gear progression I can make at max level?
So I’ll ask again for clear clarification. Is this recognized as a bug and do you have any intention of fixing it before it becomes really relevant in Midnight (i.e. in a week)?
I’m also a software professional. I think if this was a simple problem and easy to reproduce, it would have been fixed already unless the reports have been ignored as just “bad luck”.
I have spent quite a bit of time trying to explain how/why this type of issue could happen, especially given that in my case, the loot worked OK for a few items and then got stuck on chestpieces.
My current theory is that a function that determines the slot for the loot item fails somehow and a previously generated value is getting used over and over. More specifically, it could be a timeout/resource type of problem that only happens for characters with a long history in the game and potentially a history that includes some “old data” that triggers exceptions that take longer to process. So, when you run the loot generator on a production server, it fails to generate a loot slot because it times out (except under extremely favorable conditions, which then allows the loot slot to switch occasionally). When you run the same code on a development server, it runs faster and doesn’t trigger the issue. So, if you just read the code, run unit tests or even run the code using production data on a development server, you are unable to understand or reproduce the problem.
I don’t have an active subscription anymore, so I’m just monitoring what others are reporting out of curiosity as a software engineer and someone who might be interested in coming back if/when the problem is solved. Most recently today, I noticed a few reports of excessive repeat loot related to the Prey system on the US forums.
I understand that you’d like more information as to where in the process the bug is, but we simply don’t provide this level of granularity when it comes to bugs:
- We wouldn’t have the resources to provide this much information for the hundreds of bugs that are fixed and hotfixed every day following a patch or an expansion release.
- Most of that information is internal, and we generally don’t share it outside of the development teams.
Yes, this is a bug, and a fix is still being worked on. We don’t have an ETA for this I’m afraid.
Caved in, bought Midnight & subscribed again less than a week ago. Just couldn’t stay way. Zero repeat loot thus far. The loot has in fact been very, very good and I do like the expansion. Aside from some minor things, the game seems less buggy in other ways too. I’m enjoying the expansion quite a bit.
So, if you had this problem pre-patch, it might go away later. I have reached item level 237 in less than a week and I haven’t even started using my upgrade crests.
My character is only looting weapons (2h, 1h and off-hands) and it is extremely annoying. I have just wasted all of my coffer keys and tried all 3 different mage loot specializations but nothing seems to work.
Completed all the bountiful delves on my demon hunter last night and managed to obtain 4x Osseoclad Ivory Wrist (Bracers) from each bountiful delve And another pair of Osseoclad Ivory Wrist from the Bountiful Map. Now add another rare Osseoclad Ivory Wrist shortly before delves and another pair of rare bracers adding to a total of 7(!) bracers over an evening of trying to progress gear; 6 of which were the exact same item.
I understand this bug has been ‘acknowledged’ nearly 2 months ago and as per blue post again last week. But now the season has started and there are people falling behind on gearing, because they lose an entire week worth of keys/prey boxes to stacking the same slot piece of gear. How is it okay that this proceeded to exist Into expansion launch, let alone the season launch.
Can we get this issue resolved and those that suffered from it their keys returned by taking all the excess duplicate loot away? I don’t mind rerunning the delves with reimbursed keys, but I’m afraid to do any delves now to throw away even more keys.
And now it seems my husband is having the exact same issue on his account with his Monk: exclusively getting trinkets………….
Customer Support won’t be able to change the loot already offered I’m afraid, but I can confirm that a hotfix is being worked on at the moment.
