Server balance & the free transfer fiasco

As we all know, there are several reoccurring topics that appears on these forums and the most prominent of them at the moment involves the server balance and the free transfer options from dead servers. At the moment, there are no indication of a response from Blizzard or any new information regarding these matters. Can this silence be a sign that they are working on a solution? Hear me out.

So, when TBC was around the corner we got an option with our Classic characters. Keep them on vanilla or transfer them to TBC servers. The servers themselves was of course different but we could only chose to “advance” our characters, not move them between servers. So, what if this time with WOTLK, things are going to be a bit different?
Say for example that this time, there will be a bunch of servers that we are allowed to pick from when we are to transfer our TBC characters over to the WOTLK servers. In other words, we are not only advancing our characters to the next expansion but also choosing a new realm for them.

This way, a few things happens.

  • Everyone can get a chance to meet up with their friends again on the same server.
  • People that have been on a dead server get a new chance to be a part of something bigger.

And the most important part of all this is… Structure.
Structure is one of the main reasons that the server balance was decent throughout Vanilla and the larger part of TBC (at least I would like to think so). People knew what they got with each server due to the vast information, polls and statistics on each server conducted by the community for the community. What if this could be done again for WOTLK?

Or maybe the silence from Blizzard regarding all these problems is just an indication that they really have no intention or ambition to make any type of changes or improvements. Decide for yourselves.
