First off, I absolutely love the thematic and mechanical design of the Voidweaver Priest. It feels incredible on single-target encounters and low-target priority cleave. However, pushing keys above 3,000 RIO (aiming for 3,400) exposes a massive mechanical bottleneck in large-scale AoE scenarios (20+ targets) compared to other DoT classes like Balance Druids and Affliction Warlocks.
The Problem: The Manual Setup Bottleneck
In high, hectic keys, huge pulls require rapid target-switching to apply DoTs while simultaneously dodging lethal mechanics. Shadow feels extremely punishing here:
-
Misery vs. Competitors: While Misery helps, the manual application loop feels outdated and low-impact when other classes can spread high-damage DoTs passively or instantly in AoE.
-
The Burst Cleave Trap: If adds do not live for more than 2 minutes, Shadow’s ramp-up time heavily penalizes our overall DPS. In pulls with 20+ adds, our target-capped nature makes us feel incredibly weak compared to the rest of the meta.
The Proposal: Enhancing [Invoked Nightmare]
To solve this without breaking single-target balance, we need a talent-based spreading mechanic.
- Suggestion: When Shadow Word: Pain (or Purifying Void) is amplified by [Invoked Nightmare] (+150% damage), give it a mechanical interaction to spread. For example: “When Shadow Word: Pain ticks on a target affected by Invoked Nightmare, it has a chance to spread to up to 2 additional nearby targets.”
This small adjustment would alleviate the frustrating GCD bloat in hectic pulls, preserve our single-target identity, and allow Voidweavers to scale competitively in massive AoE scenarios without losing focus on positioning and survival.
