Hi all. I returned back to wow after 3 year break and jumped straight into this new fresh PvP mode 3 weeks ago.
I started in full honour greens, was nervous and hardly aware of what’s going on, all I knew is I have to be annoying and CC as much as possible (Outlaw), my damage is low anyway. I failed at that a lot and fell into pve tunnel too much, forgetting about DRs and my CCs coming off CD.
Over these 3 weeks I slowly and steadily climbed to 1950, mainly going 3:3 and 4:2 in hundreds of shuffle rounds, while gearing, enchanting and gemming my conquest set, re-learning the game and all abilities.
But then something happened. I hit a huge losing streak, going 0:6, 1:5 back to back for several days all the way down to 1600.
Now fully geared, with PvP addons and 10x more awareness and 3x damage, being able to set up cc chains on my own, monitoring DRs and CDs, I am struggling to get 2:4 and 3:3 at 1,600. It sounds weird, but I feel like I play worse now than when I started in my greens lol. How’s that possible?
Idk bro,
is it worth putting your brain on a frying pan ?
PvP right now is to put simply- rocket science.
To improve means to have incredible amount of try and error in making proper keybindings that interract fluidly in all situations.
Addons set to the point where you can read the smallest of conditions.}
Then the knowledge of all of the classes that change every month.
Now that you know everything and have 5 seasons of PvP under your belt - go back thought all of this again just to realize how badly you keybinds, macros and addons are set and how idiotic your knowledge of the game was back when you though u knew a thing or two, just to do it all over again.
This is the vicious cycle you gotta go through at least 10 times.
If you’re ready, by all means- spam shuffle.
TLDR:
The issue is not within you- to put it simply - the game is not comprehensive anymore.
Luckily rating means nothing too.
People wintrade, script or simply play Blitz to get their rewards anyways.
So just play Blitz- get your rewards and have a good time instead of deepfrying your brains shuffle or 3v3.
You could try and play an easier class for a bit. Out of all the classes rogue is imo by far the hardest to play. Maybe try a ret or warrior for a bit. Or just keep going, maybe try some 3s with ppl with a ton of experience, check out some streams etc.
You’re not playing worse. What happened was that when you started playing, there were more people playing Solo Shuffle, whereas now they’re mostly played by a relatively small number of what you could call “tryhards” or “dedicated players” depending on your view, and hardly anyone else, because most people gave up on the mode. It’s frankly boring, MMR is too low, increases aren’t felt, the season end isn’t anywhere in sight, and it feels pointless to play.
Shuffle and arena in general are not worth it this season. Play blitz if you really want to play pvp, although blitz can be quite frustrating too. They screwed up a lot with pvp this season.
What is this advice? Blitz is more about “if u want free 2.4 rewards for not doing much”. Shuffle is totally fine on all mmr range for dps, 3s is totally fine if u have guys to play it with (especially as outlaw)
Queue times at the start of the season were a maximum of 5 minutes. A drawback was that the comps were so grossly imbalanced that the vast majority of the time the games were decided in the starting room, e.g. if you had a Mw and/or Pres Evoker on your team and the enemy didn’t, often times one team would have 2 MW’s (not uncommon now either), whether you have a Rogue on your team etc (still applies today, bear with me).
With patch 11.0.5, they made adjustments to the matchmaking system to prioritise balancing classes and specs across teams. They did this to ‘prioritise higher quality matches with minimal impact on queue times’. In classic fashion and to the surprise of nobody, the quality is generally still pretty poor with frequent imbalanced comp matchups and the queue times are shambolic. Direct opposite of their intentions.
At the top end you can’t really get a game until 9-10pm and since the meta is more defined at the top you’re pretty much stuck with a combination of MW/Disc/Pres Evoker lobbies (unless you’re me and you get cursed with the same griefing Resto Druid who trolls every game he’s in and gets mass reported every lobby), and then also praying your DPS setup is good, often times praying you have at least 1 Rogue spec. 3/7 healing specs being meta also contributes to the wait times and frankly puts other people off queuing.
