So what’s the point of Player Housing?

So what’s the point of Player Housing?

You are building your house the way you want it..ok.
You will get the occasional quest every month or so, for some new furniture style..ok

what else can you do?

Will it have an Auction House? (and no, i don’t have an AH mount..was late to the party)
Will it have the Timeways portal for the seasonal M+ dungeons or raids?
Will it have any use at all, beside RP-ing?

In my opinion player housing should be the player “hub”, where you have everything you need…yes, even AH or at the very least the timeways portal for me to port to the dungeon/raid i want to run in M+.

Let’s face it…when you are in a hurry, and you need to log off, you wont say..“Wait, wait, let me port over to my house, get inside my house and sit on a this new fab chair i got.” ..you will just log off at a major city or just alt+f4 where you are.

In my honest opinion, player housing is perfect for RP-ers.
Player housing will be “the awesome new thing” for like a year or 2…just like all the other cool things Blizz released and forgot about: Garrison, Mission Tables, Archeology, Pet Battles…

But because of player housing we get a “half-baked” expansion that feels more like a major patch then anything.
We didn’t even get the Bard class, yet there are numerous new NPCs, Sylvanas included wielding or using a harp.
It’s as if they wanted to release the Bard class but got no man-power for it to complete it… because of this massive player housing bs.

Mark my words…in 2 years time, very few people will talk about player housing ..if any at all. And it WILL become an obsolete feature…just like the other cool things.

At least with the Bard class, Blizz could have introduced more support classes, maybe even added a support spec for other classes as well..

I don’t know..it feels wierd, it feels off.
The expansion Midnight feels like a major patch…
No Bard class..
..its all “meh”..
..it all feels “off”..

Transmog is currently WoWs real end-game content, in Midnight it will be Transmog + Housing /sarcasm

Just like Pet battles etc etc.
Collecting things is a way to play the game, self-expression is a great way to play the game.
Not everything has to be tied to making other end game content easier or accessible.

I want to build a Cafe-la-barry, have a nice coffee bar and put some Phalic shapes on my lawn.
I dont need anything else.

It’s a cosmetic game system, which a ton of people enjoy, that in itself is already enough.

I doubt it, Guild Wars, FFV etc all have housing systems which are less extensive as what blizzard is building and it’s still an actively used system in those games.

You are aware that there are multiple teams, working across different expansions and also working across different micro-aspects of those expansions.

There are set resources for classes, which are currently doing the class reworks and system changes.

and once you have built your “Cafe-la-barry” …and everything is as you want it…what then?

Wod was rated one of the worst xpacs and the garrisons were noted as a reason as to why.

also its now 3 tww seasons i hear/read permanently about midnight and mainly about housing. Stop overhyping this like the dragoncostumization.

Expections: create awesome cool protodrakes leaving the bfa gladmounts in the dust

Reality: skadi mount from wish.

Will be the same here.

Well let’s see.

In no mans sky and starfield i spent maybe 40 hours across both games just designing my main ship.
To then see inspiration and go and do it all over again anyway.

There’s a reason people can put 1000s of hours into the Sims…

But you know, when im not spending an unhealthy amount of time in housing, there is pushing M+, raiding, pvp, brawlers guild, new prey system…

exactly what i was thinking…

Wrong, WOD had one of the worst releases due to garrisons and it blocked leveling and game progression for up to a week.
WoD was plagued with content draughts, promised features that weren’t delivered etc etc.

Garrisons was promised to be much more than what it turned into and got little to no updates since the release.

i’ll make my final reply by saying, there is a lot of content in WoW i do not engage with but appreciate that other people do.

WoW does not have a single goal, it allows for solo, pve, pvp content across different levels.
It offers self expression and customisation as well.

Player housing has been requested more times as a feature than anything else in WoW history at this point.
It might not be a system you engage with, but apparently a lot of people will.
There’s data from other games that backs that up as well.

As long as blizzard can do it well.

To make contents for “housing-only” players and more sub.

No, and it honestly shouldn’t have.

We already have AH mounts which is worse enough. The Mount even returned to my knowledge for another 90€ turn on the store. Aside of that, cities exist!
We have every expansion/season by now a specific portal room for M+ dungeons of that season
Raids have summoning stones.

Not all features need to be aimed at everyone in a game.

TBH you could say that about anything in the game. When you have achieved your raiding and mythic plus goals, or your pvp goals, what then?

We all play the same hamster wheel of getting 3k / aotc / whatever, then logging off to do it all again next tier.

Housing is just another “goal” for this cycle.

Not interested in housing either. My characters were homeless for 20 years they wont change that now.

But it does not affect me that housing is implemented, so let others have fun.

Try to see the bright side - maybe you can make some gold by selling stuff which is useless to you but housing people want to have. Let blizz earn money by selling housing stuff in the shop, money which hopefully will be invested into wow. Maybe some new players which start because of housing and pour into content you enjoy.

I for example spent my entire time in rated pvp and I doubt this is the main content for more than what .. 5% of the players - but that is not an argument to gut it out of the game.

My house will be the default rectangle with whatever random rewards I get for pvp lol.

It’s supposed to be for fun and enjoyment. The reason why games were made to begin with.

People have spent hundreds, if not thousands of hours on other games with player housing simply just decorating.

As for having things like AH and such, they probably will down the line add these things.

What’s the point of transmogs, mounts, pets, etc. ?

Transmog is an unnecessary part of the game, but people enjoy collecting them to alter their appearance.

So aka, WoD garrisions where you had absolutely no reason to even leave your garrison?

Ok, got it. Thanks but no thanks.

The point of player housing is to expand the In-Game Cash shop

get ready to pay € 90,- for an Illidan bodypillow or frozen throne chair in your house.

Some of us just want to decorate.

It’s silly how you think your way and view applies to others. I never alt-f4 really and always try to leave char where I wish to.

Stop applying your tastes to others. If anything, why make houses? For the same reason why play wow or games in general - to have fun. Why chase highest ilvl when all you do is hc for example or low keys? A waste of time really but some enjoy it even then.

We see this issue repeatedly with people who simply don’t understand the appeal of housing. It’s not something we will use just once and be done. It’s an ever evolving project. They will never understand or accept that people are all different and those that have been asking for housing will use this long term.

Every game with housing it’s used long term, it’s a staple of MMOs and WoW is finally getting theirs.

@Pwnrex

What’s the point of collecting transmogs, mounts and pets? They look pretty. I like looking at them. The same way I dress my virtual doll, the same way I will decorate my virtual dollhouse. Before player housing, I used to go to Booty Bay or to the Isle of Quel’Danas and watch the sea there, because it looked beautiful and relaxing.
