Not as much as a retcon, but this was the tipping point that had Anduin and Saurfang going, for “Its Sylvanas only now”. Anduin even references the Horde as only the guys under Saurfang (or those willing to follow him).
And does so by describing it only with praise.

Alliance and Horde are fighting at Arathi Warfront. That is a border line. So, no. Horde did not lost 5 locations.
In fact starting village in Lordareon still belongs to the Horde there.
Regarding Teldrassil, it’s not a capital city, its a starting zone! Zone with the size as Tirisfal Glades!
P.S. And why people keep saying that Ashenvale is lost? Did we had any words from Blizzard like that Silvwerwing Sentinels faction is not exist anymore?
well the horde basically wiped out all night elves in ashenvale and darkshore before they burned teldrassil so it’s safe to assume it’s theirs now
Well, in the book when duid was flying over the Silverwing Sentinels camp, he smells the blood, but there was no dead bodies.
We can consider, that Silverwing Sentinels were all killed, and Horde have hidden all the bodies for some reason. Or maybe after the fight Silverwing Sentinels retreated to forest to have Guerrilla war.
There also some facts:
- Table missions says that there is still war in Ashenvale.
- At the War of the Thorns game scenario Delaryn told us, that many people manage to run in to forest from Astranaar city.
- Blizzard have updated Warsong Gulch BG, instead of deleting it.

You heard it here first guys!!! Alliance exploded the entire port and ships, cut their way through 5 bosses and who knows how much trash packs (population) but the end sum of all that is = 1 King
According to Elaria the Battle of Dazaralor was 
- cinematic were 20 ships with crew and near port explode with cinematic showing zandalari corpses at sea= not genocide so sum is zero = 0
- dock then Shroud to King Rastakhaan and kill ONLY him = not genocide sum is zero again

He also saved the World in War of the Ancients ! as well as Stormrage novel, during the Novel Sylvanas was locked into a Nightmare by Xavius which made her High Elf again and got repeatedly stabbed and raised by Arthas on loop.
Yeah, seems like there few people who really like Malfurion characters
But blizzard hates the characters I like (Kael, Malfurion)

Valsharah during beta/Alpha was supposed to be very different,I played the beta it had a very different story, whoever changed it needs to be fired ! The person that wrote Malfurion during Legion has never read any of the novels or knows anything about the character.
The man that saved the entire planet and pushed the Nightmare to the rift and destroyed Xavius gets captured by the Shade of Xavius…
