[SOLVED] Sound Effects Missing or Choppy after 7.3.5

Some people cannot hear specific sound effects, (or sound choppy, cutting off) especially from DBM or BigWigs, inside raids. I fixed it doing the following.

[1]. In System Sound Options, set Sound Channels to -Medium- or -Low-.
(so that a relevant line appears in Config.wtf file that we have to edit)
If this setting is -High-, the command line wont appear in Config.wtf file.

[2]. Edit the Config.wtf file, which is inside the WTF folder
.. / .. / World of Warcraft / WTF / Config.wtf
using an editor like Notepad++

[3]. Find SET Sound_NumChannels
and set the number of channels to 128.
SET Sound_NumChannels "128"

[4]. SAVE the Config.wtf file.

That did the trick for me. ;-)

Thx , i gonna try it.
I was experiencing the same issue, Mostly noticeable while using warning methods as DBM and BigWigs.
By upping the amount of soundchannels described above the issue is completely solved.

I've read the answer on US battle.net but thanks for posting it here Aenaos.

....
SET Sound_NumChannels "128"
...
Glad this is sorted for you and thanks for the update.

It always reverts back to 64 for me.
Also if i set the ingame setting to medium or high, WoW instantly closes itself without an error.
Amazing patch!

Try to edit Config.wtf and add the line
SET Sound_NumChannels "128"
at the bottom.
After that, ingame Sound Channels setting should indicate 'Custom'.
This solution was easy and fixed it for me.
This solution will not fix that bigwigs will miss some sounds like certain countdowns because of something broken by Blizzard.
Just done a quick LFR to test, only running 1 addon DBM, it stops the sound clipping, but they do not play everytime, sound priorities are still not right, in game sounds still have top priority, when there are 'gaps' in in-game sounds you will hear DBM.

Tried changing DBM to 'Dialogue' channel and its still the same, seems like every channel prioritises game sounds first over everything.

Only way to make addons, DBM, Weak Auras etc play as they should and did pre patch is to completely turn of game sounds.

Which ever way you try to work around the issue it does not fix the fact the game is broken, Dev's have Blue posted on US forums they know and it is a bug, but its been like this for 7 days now, How much longer we expected to pay a service that's broken ?
I'm sorry it didn't work for some of you guys.
For me it works fine.
I'm sure I can hear every addon I have, along with game sounds.
Of course I guess this is a temporary solution, until a permanent fix comes up.
For me it works fine. Thanks!
and again we have to fix something Blizz broke 7 days ago!
BigWigs has some obnoxious code in it's loader.lua (line 665) that resets your channels to 64.

You will need to edit this too if you use bigwigs. Change it to

SetCVar("Sound_NumChannels", 128)
Thank you.
Works on 8.x too.

Thanks!
Happy to hear this here helped you Eziø, but please do not bump such old threads. Locking this now to prevent further bumps.
