According to wowhead comments, if you bought either the Gryphon or Wind Rider, you got the other one too. Is this correct as I never got the Gryphon?

it says in comments like you said , you buy one and get the other so its strange maybe place a ticket in.
It was originally from the Scroll of Resurrection program. Initially you only got one of them, but it got changed to both iirc. Don’t know how the version on trading post works, since I already had it, but I imagine Wowhead comments are correct that you should still get both.
Maybe originally, but on the trading post they were sold separately.
Edit: I looked at the wowhead comments and it’s possible that it has been hotfixed to give both, I don’t really remember.

A GM just confirmed that you have to buy both:
"So I did some digging and confirmed through our dev team that both were for sale on the trading post at the same time (as separate items), it is intended that buying one does not unlock the other factions version.
We did get a several reports of characters getting the two mounts with one purchase, however, this is not the intended behavior."
At least I know that I did not miss out on a free mount 
Sounds like you got a very new Game Masters, who seems to be working from the United States (as they fired pretty much all EU support) or they’re finally using the Microsoft outsourcing support… god help us!
But I’ve never heard of the trading post issuing the reward in this manner, as they test out the system before for the items are placed on there. So either the GM is just lying to you about there being several reports or is was indeed a very very very very very very very rare bug.
As if it was a “random” bug, it would have been more then several, but thousands upon thousands spread across EU and US server, thus resulting in the developers have to give out the other mount to everyone due to people now complaining that others are getting to keep those mounts, which they got via a bug.
Weird overall.
