With every passing patch, Blizzard is -as expected- trying to re-new our skills, trying to make them more fun and engaging or whatsoever i don’t know. They are trying.
But
Against all their intentions -which i don’t exactly know what they are- our spells and skills end up being more useless. How ? I will put just 2 examples here and i guess you will see what’s happened and happening here.
1- Chaos Bolt: Chaos bolt was A TRUCK. You weren’t able to cast it so often and so easy but when you did, it did matter. When you ended that cast, rather much less than now, it flew to your target, exploded on them and really did some serious damage and you felt good. Now, chaos bolt is a regular spell… Almost no different than immolate. And as a result, a chaos bolt hitting to a target does no significant importance and the satisfaction is absolutely gone. A chaos bolt nowadays is… Just worthless and a part of your regular rotation.
2- Frozen orb: It was once in a minute. That’s all. No cd reduction no procs nothing. You had frozen orb 1 time in a minute and when you had it, it did matter. On that CD, you really had the difference and hitting real hard with that + FoF procs. Bam bam bam. Was satisfying. Now ? We are literally casting 4 to 5 Frozen orbs per minute. As a result, it has been made much much much weaker. I even have to use it against regular NPCs at the outside world more than 2 times to get a kill with a pack of 3 mobs. It doesn’t feel no way special.
So, i guess you got what i mean with the above.
On the one hand, Blizz is trying to make us feel Stronger to let us use these Cool abilities much more often than we could. But, they are also making them much much much weaker (in sake of… i don’t know what).
This is literally underwhelming the fun of the game. This must not be the way to design spells and skills.
You possibly didn’t even read what is written… Post is not about the amount of spells. It’s about the special spells getting worse. Like your same favourite chips having less grams per pack.
And you know what happened when chaos bolt hit hard ??
1 button warlocks… Pres whatever to get chaos bolt and cast that. And the dps breakdown was : 80% damage us chaos bolt…
I mean, just look at warlocks in the ptr of ww…
They were pressing rain of fire on single target to get shards for the hero talent ultimate…
2 buttons…
And that is not the only class with this issue. I play warrior as well and execute has always been problematic for the same exact reason… And its much better today than it used to be.
What you wrote, is just admitting that we have a skillflation issue.
Our difference is, you like hitting 8 different buttons 30 times per minute and getting no specific satisfaction out of them. and i don’t.
i would rather hit 4 different buttons 30 times and get some satisfaction on the 5th on a given CD and maybe a 6th to get a Bigger impact on a bigger CD.
Classes are now becoming “keyboard labour” and nothing more by every passing day with this way of design logic.
Do you understand with how complex rotations are you can’t possibly just put big numbers on 1 spell? Brain dead rotations are gone, now satisfaction comes from executing your rotation properly while dodging and executing mechanics, you get big numbers from fitting enough chaos bolts in infernal crashing chaos window, not from hitting 1 spell.
Skill issue as always.
No. Rotations are not complex at any rate. There is absolutely no complexity playing todays destruction warlock. There is not a single spec in game that has a complex rotation now. They are all just pressing the glowing buttons.
a chaos bolt is a “tiny bit stronger” conflagrate and that’s it. this is wrong.
In my opinion, passive skills, RNGs and procs have come to such a point, where it makes no sense now. for instance, when i play affliction in a dungeon and check “details” at the end of it, there are like 25-30 things that made damage. (even maybe more). but from those 30, the skills that i am using are 5 to 6 of them and they are generating 25 additional effects.
that given, the skills that i used are making up %40 to %50 of my damage done. and the rest are those additional passive effects. (numbers may vary, i am trying to roughly remember here. but you all know it’s like that).
this makes no sense.
my skills, which i use tons of way more often when compared to older packs, are doing at the best %50 of my damage.
for some classes (like frost mage) you are -even- on the lucky side. cause at least you have that glacial spike which (not always as you just mentioned) sometimes hit hard and gives you that satisfaction.
Funny that you chose chaos bolt to complain about of all things because that spell has never been special by your logic. At first it was something you’d just slam it on cooldown every few seconds, then later instead of having a cooldown it costed burning embers, which served the same function soul shards have since Legion. It literally always was just “part of your regular rotation”.
Instead of waiting for chaos bolt to come off cooldown, the spells you are pressing in between are what’s building up to a chaos bolt. How is that worse? Imo somethnig you just slam on cooldown without thinking is kinda boring.
Completely false because it’s the most positioning sensitive lock spec, that needs to hardcast many of his abilities and dependant on learning boss mechanics beforehand. Much easier when you reach 30% haste tho that’s true, but we are at the start of the season. Demo for example is much easier to play because he is much easier to move while doing damage.
Debatable
It was the case in legion maybe, but now most of the specs roll around time sensitive windows and effective resource management, again completely false
Always love this arguments. Its skill issue yeah then you check those players interface and they use 20+ different addons just so they can actualy play their class correctly.
3 abilities. maybe 4 if you are talented into it. so, just like every other spec. and everyone has to learn boss mechanics pre-hand.
which window ? which resource ? like a section of a boss fight where it takes double damage ? what’s so complex about it ? and what has it to do with my argument ?
anyways. this topic is not about a specific spec and a class. those were examples from me trying to demonstrate you how our significant skills are becoming more oftenly accessable yet less significant by every passing day.
so, try not to defend your spec. try to compare it in your experience.
You again dont understand what he is talking about. Yes you get chaso bolt more often but it also does way less dmg to compensate fact it comes out more often which makes casting those spells actualy super boring.
I recently downloaded MSBT again becouse i wanted to see what does dmg and how much. I legit got in combat with 1 single mob and my screen got insntaly spammed with numbers where most of those numbers i didnt even know where they coming from. I had to turn off addon becouse i wouldnt be able to actualy see part my screen.
CDR is fun in every game it is in and its no different in WoW - and even if it wasn’t fun, which it is, the game is balanced around m+ and in m+ you need to have a cooldown ready for every single pack and if you don’t you’re below tank DPS.
so what you’re asking here is not for them to redesign all of the classes, but also to redesign m+, because you don’t like the mechanic of CDR which is again everyone’s favourite mechanic in every other game its in (Borderlands, Destiny, Diablo, PoE, Guild Wars) and also in WoW.
much more often and smaller damage spikes ? insignificant spells getting useful only on popping CDs ?
rare and bigger damage spikes ? spells mattering more even when not during a CD ?
or steady damage with… maybe no spikes and no CDs ?
how should damage happen ? with our skills or with passive effects and rng ?
from all of the above, i am into the side that asks for
steady damage, less rng, less passive effects, rare and bigger CDs.
That is turning classes into 1 button spam machines. With no thought about what you are pressing.
Literally : 1 → 2 → 3 → 4 → 1 …
Like a fury warrior. Press 2 buttons non stop until one button blinks every now and then. And press XYZ CDs on cooldown.
No thought. No strategy. Nothing.
Just bot simulator online.
When you have rotations of 8 buttons, its not just spam 1 to 8. You have 1 to 4 core skills, and the rest are procs, charges, modifiers… all those are taken into consideration such that you dont press the same sequence of 8 buttons all the time.
And if you want to do the same for a 4 button rotation, considering that some of those will be ST, and some AoE, you NEED more buttons to accommodate procs and modifiers. Therefore, a 4 button core ability rotation turns into “8 buttons”…
Hence my comment : want less buttons, then you will get a fixed 1234 boring rotation. The same thing we got in classic.
