There is no problem as such. Rather, suggestions. Isn’t it time to get rid of the Horde/Alliance division ??? and replace it with organizations like, for example, the Silver Hand, Defias Brotherhood, Kirin Tor, or Argent Dawn ??? Then origin wouldn’t matter, only character… Besides, pushing further into a conflict that doesn’t exist is pointless, and instead, make a few ‘good’ clans, a few ‘evil’ ones, and really EVERYONE would be happy with that.
They basically did already get rid of it, except they don’t come out and say it, because they don’t want the reaction that would get. So they throw in a few meaningless comments or a small faction-only area now and again, so that faction partisans that huff a lot of copium can pretend that it’s still a thing. Gameplay wise, it’s just too much of a bother to change faction mechanics that are embedded in more than 20 years of code that’s already running on duct tape and prayers.
So, with the factions basically gone… I’ll certainly agree that it’d be nice if we got conflict in through other in-world organisations that one can side with and against. I don’t think class-themed organisations like the ones you mentioned would be ideal, but as long as they actually create some kind of mission conflict with others that’d be an improvement to what we have now. Anything that makes them think of the story from more than one pwespectives. I’ve made a similar suggestion… oof, almost 7 years ago…
I like the idea of organizations taking over the responsibility of defending Azeroth while the factions should be busy with internal politics or other sheningans. Let’s be honest, Alliance and Horde are already so big it’s strange they have any time to save the world when their leaders have to make sure they alliances even work and doesn’t fall apart from the inside.
TWW was a perfect example of this. The Earthen Ring and Cenarius Circle should have come to the Ilse of Dorn instead of Alliance and Horde. These two should still licking wounds after the wars or admit that sending people to a lonely island because of some vision has no sence. Maybe also dwarves should be there, but why send there orcs from Orgimmar and Knights from Stormiwnd?
No! It’s one of the core identity aspects of the Warcraft IP.
Getting rid of the Alliance and Horde is extremely risky. It would be like removing the rule of football to kick the ball and allowing players instead to throw the ball.
It would completely change how the IP works and the problem is, Blizzard already stumbled a lot into the direction.
Getting rid of the Horde and Alliance altogether while continuing to neglect other, more bestial races in the lore like Tauren, Orcs and co. in the writing could essentially kill the game for many.
There is a reason the saying “never touch a running system” exist. Don’t fix something that doesn’t need fixing. Blizzard should instead embrace the Horde and Alliance division in the story (while removing the gameplay limitations and going full crossplay outside of cities and War Mode).
I’d rather not, the day the split is removed is the day I quit the game and I’m currently enjoying roleplay still so I’d rather not quit the game.
