Survival hunter is the most bad class in history of wow in midnight pvp/pve

Honestly, this really needs to be addressed: Survival Hunter is in an absolutely terrible state right now.

The spec feels outdated, shallow, and simply not enjoyable to play anymore. It lacks impact, depth, and meaningful decision-making. Compared to other specs, Survival feels incomplete and far behind in both PvE and PvP.

At this point, it’s not just a tuning issue — it’s a design problem:

  • Not enough engaging active abilities

  • Weak and unclear class identity

  • Repetitive and uninteresting gameplay

Things seriously need to change. The spec needs new abilities, better mechanics, and a complete rethink of its gameplay direction. Right now, it feels like it’s missing core elements that every other spec has.

What makes it worse is that a lot of experienced and high-level players are all saying the same thing: Survival Hunter feels like one of the worst-designed specs WoW has ever had. That kind of feedback shouldn’t be ignored.

In its current state, the spec just doesn’t work anymore. It’s not fun, it’s not rewarding, and it doesn’t feel competitive.

Please take the community feedback seriously and make meaningful changes — because right now, Survival Hunter is simply not in a viable or acceptable state.

I mean SV is currently the top hunter spec in both m+ and raids, and if I’m on honest It’s still the best playing spec that hunters have right now tho not a lot of players are willing to play it because its melee.

And it’s not what they signed up for when they picked hunter its biggest issue feels wise is boomstick it feels clumsy tho the animation and sound rework in 12.0.5 helped a lot with that.

Another issue is the spec/class fantasy is all over the place it feels like it’s the class equivalent of a midlife crisis it just doesn’t know what it wants to be it’s a weird fusion of an outlaw rogue and hunter.

Blizzard really needs to sit down and figure out what the spec wants to be.

No. Blizzard needs to sit down and figure out what every fkn spec in the entire game should be.

That is what needs to happen, figure out legit every class, and every spec.

Spec is just focused on too many things: Melee, bombs, pet.

I think they need to remove 1 from this equation, and it should be pet. The fact that BM and SV have the same main skill in talent tree (kill command) shows a clear design flaw in SV. Same goes for Mastery, they are too similar.

At least make pet optional like MM so that half of rotation was not depending on it. And main skill in the tree should be either Wildfire Bomb or Raptor Strike.

The way i see it, SV should be a self-sufficient, versatile fighter, who can switch between mid-range and close-range combat, using grenades, shotgun and melee attacks depending on the situation.

Because let’s be real wow’s PVP has been pretty much dead for decades I do feel bad for those who enjoy PVP, but wow is a pve game at just happens to have pvp tacked on to it

I agree, but SV without a pet would just be an outlaw rogue in mail armor the reason SV became melee was because it was too close to MM.

Now it’s close to BM which makes sense as it’s based on rexxar, but honestly I think they should go back and try to make it ranged again.

It’s been 10 years since SV was reworked to be a melee spec, and It’s still the lowest played hunter spec by FAR even when its doing really well hunters just don’t play it because its melee It’s just not what hunters signed up for.

I’m sure blizzard could make the spec its own as ranged at this point.

Unfortunately, Blizz has recently decided that “pet” is a major theme for Hunters, and so all Hunters should have a pet. That’s why Lone Wolf got dismantled and MM is stuck with the eagle.

Frankly, Blizz just doesn’t know what to do with some specs in terms of spec identity and design, so they keep tossing reheated ideas from 5, 7, 10 years ago on the plate and hoping it works out.

Funny thing is, the class has a clear identity issue, with engagement/ design.
Pack Leader with daggers seems to be the build used for M+ atm, I’m unsure if they can roll on or even get daggers in vaults etc….. no idea, just seems really silly tbh :L

I mained SV Hunter for 2.5 expansions before the pruning

It was my favorite PvP spec in the entire game, and now it is the worst spec (design wise) because of the CC changes to Hunter…

EVERY class in the game has self healing, damage reduction, and CC… or a combination of AT LEAST two of these defense types… SV Hunter now basically ONLY has “dmg reduction”… Blizz removed 1/3 of our CC, and it was all the fun ones…

This new design philosophy about “Hunter needs to slow enemies to survive” doesn’t work AT ALL in Retail WoW… EVERY class has some form of immunity or spell to slows… :face_with_bags_under_eyes:

Basically… All Hunter specs are now “glass canon” specs. Because we no longer has CC to keep us alive, if you don’t have a pocket healer babysitting you, you won’t survive…

SV Hunter used to be this awesome skill based spec, which had a high skill ceiling but rewarded you if you played well… Now it’s just worthless without healers…

I absolutely hate the new SV Hunter.

i’ve mained sv since bc, and hunter has always been the first class i level up. for me, survival has been one of the most interesting specs in the game since bfa.

this is the first Midnight expansion where i haven’t leveled my hunter, and honestly, i don’t even want to. i tried playing it and watched some streams, but sv feels like the most clunky and boring spec you can imagine now. it feels pointless and dull. i don’t know, maybe people shouldn’t be working on a spec if they don’t know what to do with it.

I’ve been playing hunter since january 2007, and SV has been my main spec since Legion. For me, WoW’s golden era in terms of class design and gameplay was TLK, Cata, and MoP. That said, I still managed to enjoy the class in every expansion that followed until Midnight (ok WoD was very boring). I honestly no longer recognize the class I’ve been playing for nearly 20 years. And worse than that, I find it so unfun now that I’ve simply stopped playing the game.

I genuinely want to keep enjoying WoW, but the current state of hunter gameplay makes that impossible for me. Before Midnight, I could easily spend an entire evening doing BGs, arenas, or M+ with friends. Now, even forcing myself through 2 BG’s or dungeons in a row feels exhausting because the gameplay just isn’t fun.

If you compare SV gameplay to every previous iteration up to Legion (which, for many players, marked the beginning of “modern WoW”), Midnight’s version feels dramatically worse. And this isn’t just about survival. It’s honestly impressive in the worst possible way that BM also lost abilities, and MM did too, to the point where ES had to be brought back only two months after launch, what was the beta even for ?

I recently looked at screenshots of my action bars from previous expansions up to Legion, and compared them to what we have now and it was really depressing. There are so many missing abilities and passives. Before every expansion, I used to look forward to discovering new spells and talents with excitement and curiosity. Midnight is the first time I felt the complete opposite. Instead of evolving the class, it feels like hunter received a massive gameplay downgrade.

After almost 20 years of playing this game, this is the point where WoW has finally lost me. This isn’t written out of anger, but out of disappointment. Hunter used to be incredibly fun and engaging to play, and right now it feels like that identity has been stripped away.

I sincerely hope Blizzard takes this feedback seriously, because I would genuinely love a reason to come back and enjoy playing my class again.
