Survival hunter on Midnight Beta

First a few disclaimers;
I don’t mean to contradict anyone or fault any previously given opinion. I just want to give my own thoughts on survival hunter in Midnight beta, so I do not speak for anyone else but myself.
Secondly, I don’t mean to bash on the developers. I’m sure they are doing the best they can, so I don’t mean to disrespect their effort.

Now to the interesting stuff:
I really enjoyed the theme of survival using numerous different tools, such as improvised explosives (wfb and explosive shot), animal venom, a big af weapon, their pet and a small crossbow for arcane shot and killshot. All of this tied in nicely with the spec description of “an adaptive ranger”, showing the ingenuity of a ‘survivalist’. The current version of surv on beta kind of lacks this variety to me. Thematically, I am not really a fan of boomstick nor flamefang pitch. The idea of using a rusty old shotgun for dps doesn’t really fit the theme of the spec. furthermore, flamefang pitch seems not too great. I would like it more if it was a vial of poison or acid that was thrown, given that poison is not in survs beta arsenal, yet fits the spec quite well.

Mechanically, boomstick doesn’t really interest me either. I am generally not a fan of a fast paced melee spec having a core ability that just requires you to wait (looking at Windwalkers). This point holds for Fury of the eagle as well, tho it is not as key to your rotation as boomstick will be. Furthermore, you don’t HAVE to choose fury, whereas you HAVE to pick boomstick.
As for Flamefang Pitch, it kind of lacks interactivity, and with it reason to press. Maybe it would be cool to give it some interaction like making WFB do nature damage and increase WFB DoT damage. On a somewhat different note, I don’t really understand why flanking strike and coordinated assault had to be combined. I kind of liked the way it was, especially given that flanking strike was a choice node with Butchery.

Honestly, I was very happy with the Surv iteration in TWW, both pre and post PL rework. The pre version gave a lot of interaction among your spells, making it quite complex to properly manage all of your damage abilities. Post rework provided an interesting new mechanic in dealing with the summoned beasts, providing a new layer of depth.
Sentinel was quite dull/passive in TWW, but the new version in midnight does seem quite interesting, and it actually requires some thought on how to use it properly.

If you have any suggestions or mean to discuss my opinions, feel free to do so :slight_smile:

I agree with liking the TWW version of SV Hunter, although minus the Explosive Shot since it just felt like an extra button to press.

But oh man…. the utility we lost in the process going into Midnight… :sweat_smile: It took me 5 years to FINALLY land on SV Hunter as my main, but that was because it had the utility it had…

Now going into Midnight, my SV Hunter is on a “testing period” to see whether or not it is going to bore me, since it is basically just a “deal damage” spec now… :frowning: WHICH IS SO BORING IN PVP!

I have a Druid, Shaman, or Evoker ready to take over in case it turns out I end up hating SV Hunter.
