Tank and Healer "Shortage"

I feel you bro, was forming a group for WC run couple of days ago, warrior and shaman join - both say “I am DPS”. Had to persuade the warrior to try tanking for 15 minutes, even bought him a common 1H sword for 38s from a vendor in Ratchet, which is a lot at lvl 19.

Why? That’s how it was done back in the day and how it’s done now. I’m easily tanking as a fury warrior. An enhancement shaman can easily press “healing wave” inbetween auto swings.

It’s only at lvl60 that you need tank gear and healing gear + specs.

The more people who understand that levelling dungeons are introductory, the better.

The trick is to refuse to invite warriors and shamans until the tank/heal spots have been filled. I’m not sitting around for 20 minutes searching for a healer while a shaman strokes his axe.

Yep. I agree that this is the done thing as it was back in the day. However, people that didn’t experience vanilla don’t understand how the game is set up and how hybrid duties are a thing at low level and how you can slap on a shield and tank or how you can heal in shadow/elemental/feral/retribution spec.

Then teach them. Give people the opportunity to learn as we did in the days of old.

It’s a bit cumbersome to type in /2 or /4

“LFG TANK ITS OKAY IF YOURE ARMS, I’LL TALK YOU THROUGH HOW TO PUT ON A SHIELD AND TANK”

Entitled DPS whining about wait times when playing an oversaturated role. Instead of telling people how to play, roll a tank/healer yourself. Expecting nothing less from a DPS player, very hypocritical.

Harsh evaluation. Whilst I’m not whining about tanks or healers, I’ve played a healer and tank in every expac since late vanilla. I’m playing a DPS in Classic.

This so much. People don’t understand the healer goes oom in two ways (out of mana/money). I could never buy spells as I had to spend all my money on drinks as people did stupid things and I literally paid for it.

The fact that “it is possible” doesn’t mean you’re not being a horrible person to your healer.

And they’ll have to run less dungeons when they can’t afford the drinks.

No? Since they aren’t nagging like you. If you’re nagging live up to your word, but if you don’t nag then nothing’s lost?

Or is it that they have to respec for your pleasure? Wow, the world today…

So you want a fury warrior and shadow priest who have never tanked or healed to run your dungeons for you?

The dps will be understanding, polite and uncritical, staying out of the fire, helping with cc and careful of their threat, assisting the healer, if the inexperienced tank loses threat?

:joy:

So, if the reasoning is that ‘because you can do it, because it is possible, you should play as something you don’t like at all’ (which if people followed such idiotic advice would be 95% of the time).

Well lets see if you can live up to your own words, your group needs a tank? roll a tank, i mean it is possible, there isn’t any reason that you can’t? so go ahead and do that, then all your problems will be over.

I have to hand it to the op for creating a thread where all the most self centered and disgusting pure dps classes get to vent ‘waaahhh I spend ages waiting for a dungeon and it’s all your fault’. Truly pathetic, your attitude is one I have always and will always detest.

Keep it to your guilds (you know, where a bunch of like minded uber ‘1337’ players create some of the most toxic environments for a month before the inevitable disband and split into smaller toxic guilds just for the cycle to repeat), most of us don’t want to know how YOU think that WE should play.

nope if an arms warrior specs into 2handed dps talents and weapon specialisations ( axe, polearm, for 5 % crit mace for 5 % stun, sword for an extra hit )
the dps will be higher

Right click it off and ask them to only shield you in an emergency or if you ask for a pre-shielding?

If u are a warrior who doesent have a shield and refuse to tank ur not a real warrior, just a sh>tty rogue with no stealth
Same goes for anyone who can heal but refuses (atleast up to 50+ dungeons).

So nice to play druid and just tank/heal/dps whatever is needed. Ill have to say tho that there are ALOT of sh>tty dps making tanking and healing way harder then it should be.

this as when i was on my warrior, DPS would be pulling packs, hitting sheeped mobs doing max dps at the start of a pull so you loose agro and then spend time regaining agro, not following marks

Tank and Healer elitist master race.

No offence to OP but if you want to moan about Warriors not being flexible play one yourself, prot spec is boring AF, levelling solo is horrendously slow. Thats why we prefer melee / spell cleave runs.

If the tank is any good they can tank as fury spec and DPS as well as tank, personally I just tank in def stance with 2h axe as long as the healer is good.

People love a moan, myself included but people can play the game how they want, that’s just how it is.

Exactly this. I tanked in vanilla but if i hadnt i would have definately quit my first couple of dungeon runs tanking classic. Threat is an absolute nightmare with players trying to top damage meters and me running around like a madorc waiting for taunt to come off cooldown in the hope i might get some rage.

Just to clarify, id never want to take that threat challenge away and threat to be as it is in the modern game. Im just saying it would be quite intimidating to do it if you didnt already know it wasnt your fault. I just pull out the old “if you pull it im gonna assume you fancy having a go at tanking” macro i made in 2005😂

It’s because dps is straightforward and easymode and the leveling spec of everyone since we don’t got dualspecs or even room in banks for other set of gear, while tanking and healing is actually being very responsible for your group success and you really need to know what you are doing. You need to have threat on mobs as a tank and not overpull and as a healer, know how to downrank your spells to conserve mana and other small tidbits like not shielding warrior tank pre-pull.

Players do not want extra responsibility. Most just want to dps and blast through the content like usual… even if it took them 5 times as long as a dps to find said group.

But you can’t force people to do what they dont want to do.

I’m not personally going to tank any dungeons as my alt dudu unless I get this autoattack macro working for me. And I just get performance anxiety in general if I’m responsible for healing people. Maybe I’ll bite the bullet at some point but…

I am not playing a warrior or a druid in classic, got a low level hunter at the moment.

When in retail on my warrior/Paladin in a dungeon… I would go in as DPS. The times I have been asked to tank I would. In one case I joined to DPS on my paladin but the person who came into “tank” was fury specced and didn’t want to build switch+had not brought a shield. So I switched. Been in that type of situation a fair few times.

I don’t know if I will level up a tank in classic, but given what I am reading here… it doesn’t look massively appealing role wise.

“guys we dont need lfd - lfg addons are cancer - we should look for groupsi n trade”

“makes surprised pikachu face when looking for tank for3 hours”

do you know why tanks/healers could have the worst attitude in the world in classic ? because they were rare comodity

thats why tank can be a d…ck and ninja and people will still have to pay him dozens of gold for each run - because there will be so few of them
