The game need a massive prune to make it fun again

Too many abilities has made balance non-existent

Too many abilities makes PVP incredibly toxic

Too many abilities makes the entry barrier too much

Too many abilities actually reduces the complexity of the game. Look at Chess, one of the most complex 1 v 1 games but minimal different pieces and it’s about how you move and predict the movement…

Too much mobility, Crowd control, Self Healing, instant casts, front load damage…

the game will never recover to it’s previous levels because you need to reduce the barrier of entry and make the game feel like an MMO rather than having hyper hemoginized classes with different animations

Legion did it wrong

Legion stripped core rotation where it’s the power mechanics that need touching NOT rotation

Legion also added stupid things like Templates, slow CGD and terrible gearing which made it 10x worse…

your content is good

your class design is awful.

There are too many specs and classes. Too many DPS specs. Too many talents and too many abilities.

Delete 60% of the abilities and the game will be much better.

I agree, and I add that a reduction in speed, a reduction in root, gap closer and mobility would be needed

I think it’s easy to take it too far, but I will definitely agree in the following way:

There are indeed too many spells and abilities and passives that are causing all sorts of unmanageable and incomprehensible chaos, however reducing it to the level of chess would be far too much.

I think, depending on the class, you should have somewhere between 20 and 30 combat abilities. Tons of other stuff can go on top - no need to prune things like mage food or summoning stones for warlocks etc.

Even when the game was ‘simpler’ people still complained about balance.

Balanced is when your class is overpowered; unbalanced is when it’s not.

WoW has too many defensive and mobility tools, offensive rotations feel mostly ok at least for the classes I play. It’s the constant rolling DRs defensives and ability to chase down / get out of anything that are the problem.

BRM doing Rising Sun kick  . At this stage Legion was best design ever.

Content is getting more complex and challenging, so to keep all classes viable everyone has to get a spell to handle every situation.
There’s games where you’d bring the right tool for the job, but in WoW everyone plays the “hero”, who has to stand their ground everywhere they go.

I think all the balancing has killed the fun in the game, both in classes and in content in general…but without it, some classes couldn’t play the game properly right now. It’s a self perpetuating cycle.

Controversial statement incoming:

We have too many classes and races if you ask me. Better to have less but with unique and very defined characteristics than this giant smoothie and overlapping.

ERROR: your suggestion creates mandatory metas for high end content, and has been ruled out by the eSports community who runs this game. In the name of fairness and balance your opinion will be removed!

From the sheer amount of course-correcting balancing Blizzard has to do regularly, it’s difficult not to agree somewhat. There are a lot of abilities in play by now, and making all of those moving parts work in tandem is evidently an endless task of trial and error.

Yes, but you cannot just delete classes, or races, or their combos.

Indeed, this is not a balance issue.

And “equality” has always been at the forefront of customers’ demands. Players demand their favourite classes have same/similar abilities to every other class. Had players been allowed to design a class, you’d already have Warrior healers, as an extreme example.

So Blizzard have been trying to equalise classes since inception. In the beginning we had the anti-class design concepts, eg the Paladin (divine shield) vs Shaman (purge). And wherever else equality did not exist, it was “tough”.

But a large company cannot say “tough” to their customers anymore, and we see abilities/concepts cross over most/all classes.

They can to ‘forget’ ( :joy:) to make them if wow2 is to happen, and it should if you ask me.

Way too many times community feedback backfired.

Nah.

They need to make the game less spammy.

I tried playing guardian druid again recently and I seriously can’t play the spec. It destroys my hands. It’s simple to play but way too spammy.

Make ironfur stronger and put a 6 sec cd on it.

This is part of a greater issue, where Blizzard feels the need to keep making the game harder to give the cutting edge players something to sink their teeth in.

Just compare the class complexity of now vs vanilla

Legion class design sucked, the game became so simple it basically played itself and it made pvp feel like %"#&

yeah, having to do shift/ctrl etc modifiers doesnt feel good, classes should be build around having 12345qertfg controls
