Token crash

unfortunately, i am late to the party as i have not been playing much the last couple of weeks, and not monitoring the token value.

Late in the evening (i think) on June 10th, the token price “crashed” from 183K to 158K, a drop of 25K, and its lowest value since early 2017, and probably the success of Legion? while the price has gone up and down throughout BfA, there has not been a crash like that since people started playing BfA and it dropped from 370K~ to 170K~.

while it only stayed low for a day or so, that is some spike! was there anything occurring which might have caused that which i missed? the price rising to above 180K is showing that people are looking towards 8.2 and classic atm, so such a spike so close to 8.2 seems odd, and it was some spike!

It’s 173,000 in Twisting Nether right now

wait, what? i thought its EU wide? its 178,235 on silvermoon right now.

the source of my data is wowtokenprice . com and as such, i thought the EU was a single price?

Well, apparently not, I checked 1 minute before I posted the previous reply

Checked again now: 178,762

The price is region wide. There is no server price.

178,162 at this precise moment of posting.

True, checked darksorrow too, also 178,762
I’m assuming you misstyped “162”.

Yes, EU is a single price.

It was actually the 12th.

Odd set of circumstances. The data from wowtoken.info that I just downloaded presents some questions:

Yes!

this game is lucky to have players like you and more. (and puny!)

but yeah, very odd set of circumstances. and also very odd that static drop of 1% repetitively.

The 1% drop is because that is the maximum drop permitted in one tick. I thought a tick was 15 minutes, not 20, but I may be wrong, or they might have changed it. Or maybe WoWToken changed their own sampling interval. We’ve seen that mechanism before.

Setting a maximum movement per period is a sensible mechanism to guard against wild price swings in case nobody buys, or nobody offers to sell, a Token during those minutes.

P.S. Was that during the Shop maintenance recently?

i spose that makes very good sense to have a max flip amount (1%). but does then worry about artificial manipulation of the token by blizzard.

dont know about shop maintenance or any other possible cause. i wasn’t around :frowning:

I only know that my guild told me the ah ran out of tokens for a few hours.

at this point im almost sure blizzard is manually setting price for token.

To the OP the jump was most likely people resubing with gold who bought them self Beta and the 2. option would be the dreadwake mount(6 month sub) cause the subs to expire for a lot of gold subs at the same time. This is the only possible explanation since nothing was announced on the store.
tldr:Beta or Dreadwake mount cause the spikes.

Something me and Dottie agreed along long while ago…since they interduced it from Time to Balance it started to be fishy back then.Everything regarding supply and demand, they probably run the ratios 0.1(real money buyers) toward a sold 1(gold buyers),and nothing can cause this wide globe downward spike Blizzard artificaly(for BFA) setting the price of the Token to the number they deem worthy for that region. Then setting a low key(150k) and high key(id say 200k is for EU)

no tokens for whole EU? :\ hmmmm thats odd. if this was due to shop maintenance, surely there would have been some backlog on the AH that hadn’t been sold?

this only lasted for a day so im surprised to think that all tokens put on the AH could sell within 1 day. otherwise, surely the price should be way higher than it even is now. OR if not, then how come it was able to get so high in legion. it brings up all sorts of questions.

i wonder how many tokens actually are being traded daily.

how does buying a token for £ actually work? i have never and will never use microtransactions in wow so i cant test this myself. do YOU put the token on the AH? when do you get your gold for it? how long does the token stay on the AH. max for in game items is 48 hours. does token stay longer? any other info on how it works?

there is only one major spike, and its down, not up. it lost 25K value. the dreadwake running out, or beta would have made an upward spike, not downward. Also, the fact this spike only lasted a day, and was not during any major announcement means its just odd, but i think maybe Gráinne’s explanation might have the basis, if not whole reason for the spike. there have been no other major spikes during BfA, unless you count a mild 10K spike up in late september.

so i think possibly the mystery of the spike has been solved, and is shop maintenance related. however, the way it happened raises all sorts of new questions lol xD

Ah my bad…this could be some possible glitch, with as you said maintenace of the shop.

Up it’s going to go due to 8.2 and Classic

The token appears in your bag then you physically put it in the AH. You get gold in your mailbox when it sells. There isn’t a max time for tokens, but they usually sell within a day.

/edit And the price it sells for is fixed when you put it in the AH.

thank yous  no max time for selling is interesting to know, as is you have to manually put it on AH.

just thought (cause i cant help being skeptical!!!) does blizz take an AH cut like when you normally sell an item? or do you get the full 183,518g (current rate).

it also does show that the AH has the potential to work like GW2 AH, and thus tidy it up a bit, and also make linked AHs a possibility. that is, there is only 1 listing for a token. you buy which ever token is next in line to be sold. this could be done with any item. for example, primal air. instead of 37 listings of primal air in increasing cost from 5g to 350g, there would be 1 listing, and the item you buy will always be the cheapest one. this stops people listing 200 stacks of 1 item for some mats, and also reduces the amount of listings for popular items.

if they can do it with token, its possible…

I’ve only sold a couple of tokens, and that was back in WoD, but my belief is that if you sell it for 180k, you get 180k, and the buyer pays 180k.

I believe…
