Transmog personal "lore"

*puff puff pass (except there was no pass) thread:

Hey, do you guys (and grills) think of a background or backstory for your transmog outfit while you’re making it?

Personally i think i’d be a fitting emissary from a faction called Court of Skulls.
Due to the highly ornamented robes am probably royalty or at least highly placed in the hierarchy of the aforementioned faction.
I think the tight neck “sowing style” also fits this perception.

What about you? :grinning:

I have never thought about it like that. I just try to make a mog that fits the character’s personality. Like this hunter. Discreet, practical, no frill (she doesn’t even have a back).

I like your mog by the way

Yeah, it’s the armour that I stole off raid bosses or mobs, because most gear that you could steal won’t fit you as a Worgen.

In your youth you lived with your father in that dark forest south of Silvermoon.
Your dad told you the plague took your mother but really it was a troll raiding party.

So, you two were left alone, your dad taught you all the hunter/trapper skills, from survival in the wild to skinning a bear for it’s fur so you don’t freeze in the wild.

Once you grew up you left for the big city up north where you started a small business of organizing hunting parties to the forests surrounding the city for the pampered, rich, yet thrill seeking socialites of Silvermoon .

I love that story. It’s a different from the actually biography of this character, but you got some things right. She is indeed a daddy’s little girl, and she learned to fight with him :grinning:

I do not have a story for her mog though, but now, after reading this thread I’ll definitely think of something.

I crush enemies of the Empire with the power of our royal Loa.
It used to be a holy Rezan, but now it’s a gorgeous Bwonsamdi.

Since I have made a deal with him I don’t need to hide behind too much armor, or at least so I was told by him. He mentioned smth about my immensely potent regeneration talents and strong off heals as part of the deal, but sometimes I wonder whether it was just another way to get a girl naked, oh Bois be Bois  even Loa of Death

I do, usually always when I grow attached to a character (or I create it with a specific lore in mind). And, if I don’t have the transmog piece, finding it it’s part of the story itself!

I try to make my characters look like NPCs of their associated race. That’s pretty much my method.

Well, as a Roleplayer, i pretty much have such, but even had it a bit before starting RPing
This chars’ isn’t much special, more a Leather/ mail gear with sometimes having plate pieces, looking like a tribal seer…
Although the Wolfhead indeed has a story, I forgot to mention

My other chars, mainly plate wearer ones, have that forged by themselves usually, i have my Stromic (someone who is from Stromgarde) Warrior wearing a red armor, in colors of Stromgarde, having this armor for a long while…

Or above that, i most of times have a backstory about the weapons my characters wear, like the axes this character wields are called the Stormbringers, twin axes belonged to his mother, who was a Farseer…
Or again, the said Stromic warrior, who is a fury warrior, having a pair of Legendary Ancestral heirloom swords, which have Vrykul origin

Such things can be done, if you Roleplay or if you not, with Story, the game will be cooler!

Thanks for bringing this idea forth! Good luck!

I just collect transmog to make my toon look like I want it to be .I don’t think about story or lore .

I always try to piece together a background for my character as I play the game. A background that might be completely unrelated to what’s actually going on on the screen, and I try to make transmogs that fits their background stories. The avatar for my forum-posting is nothing spectacular  just trying for some black and red to go along with the blood knight tabard.

But then again, I used to roleplay a lot in TBC. Did little bits of it in WLK and Cata as well, but have largely fallen out of that scene since. I still always “passively roleplay” whenever I play the game, though, and making outfits that suit my characters is a large part of that passive roleplay.

[Edit] In WLK and Cataclysm I had macroed the command to disable and enable helmet and cloaks. With my warrior I would always toggle helmet whenever I actually did combat. When in cities or when farming, I usually had it toggled off. I’d consider that to be part of the “passive roleplay” as well, and I really miss the functionality to disable helmet on the fly. :frowning:

I don’t make up lore to go with my character because, at the end of the day, it’ll always be at the mercy of the eye of the beholder. Example, this Shaman of mine - most people will just see the standard Mag’har heritage pieces and it tells its own story already, with or without any tweaks I put to it.

I don’t try to look a certain way, outside of just ensuring that the one who is going to look at it the most (ie. me) is not unhappy with it. Unfortunately, as someone who has played Shaman of many races, the sets for Shaman are somewhat limited, and this Mag’har set is too good to pass up. I have no reason NOT to wear the heritage armour as it’s simple, effective, storied, and badass - and that is more than enough for me.

Now, I could very easily compose lore if I wanted to for my characters - after all, I had to do it for another MMORPG for a living as a freelancer not too long ago - but it’s not my thing any more (on a personal level). Let’s just put it down to my characters own /joke - “I just want to smash things”.

I did think up a reason, and I am not a roleplayer, but I do like to create some background for my character anyway.
And this character was hired by the Horde to fight as a Scout/Assassin during TBC and WoTLK(Which is why NPCs recognize her as a Veteran of Northrend and Outland).
When she was done there she had a minor fortune and went back to Kezan and yada yada yada she makes a lot more money, rivals Gallywix, Cataclysm happens, she gets betrayed, they get marooned and the Bilgewater Cartel join the Horde.
When she went to see Garrosh, Sylvanas was there and figured she would try and get in her good graces right away(Sylvanas remembered what she did in Northrend). So she gave her the Deathstalker armor and weapons as a way to bribe her.
And that worked out quite well up until Legion when Sylvanas was made Warchief and she put her sextoy in charge of most of the Military Operations, and he immediately started talking down to the Goblin, threatening her and demeaning her, pushing her away from Sylvanas because of a lack of respect.
And in BFA, Sylvanas actions, and her sextoys continued threats, while the pay is good, is not something Hofferson wants to be a part of, because sooner or later, she thinks she is going to be killed and raised as a Forsaken, to ensure her Loyalty to Sylvanas.
And where is the profit in that?
That is why she is helping Baine and Saurfang to get her off the Warchief seat, she doesn’t want Sylvanas dead, just removed.

In real life, I had to come up with an excuse to wear the weapons and armor as I just faction changed the other day to see the Horde version of the story in the game(And it is SO much better!), and while I am playing horde, I am going to do some quests in zones I haven’t completed yet on the Horde side, to see those zone stories too.
So, I had to come up with something to make it seem more “realistic” to wear that armor during Cataclysm and beyond quests =P
Though, I may change to the Honorbound armor. That is one of the true armors the horde after all.

I race changed, the weapon scale was driving me nuts.

Hound from hell!

It doesn’t allow me to post back to back, so

I can see the roleplaying aspect of your kit, but i just couldn’t shake the first association i had when i saw it - that you’re a shaman.

Other than that, good stuff, the bone carved horns as shoulders are very authentic to the “looking like an npc” experience.

Damn lol, you look like a “zombie” bodyguard of some royalty. Think the Mountain, Cersei’s guard from GoT.
Is not bad tho, the gold and purple go very well together. It’s just the bare chest that gives me anxiety. :joy:

you should put a crown on your head, because you’re a queen :weary::weary::weary::heart_eyes::yum::flushed:

LOL honestly though, this is the character with the least interesting xmog since it’s just the heritage armor, it was a temporary set until I would’ve got all the pieces.

Anyway, I was thinking more about a few other chars and my “main” (which is not this one)

It’s very nice. Very…how would we say, rough craftsmanship with the visible bolts on the boots. But i like how the names of your weapons go very well with the mechanical feel of the mog. There’s an heirloom that looks like a wrench with a spinning cog at the top. If the coors would match imo that weapon’s look would be great on you.

Scarlet Crusade Special Forces. In night camo. Very soldier-esque. Not general, but the one that gets in the thick of the action.
The only thing i’m not quite liking and it’s technically none of your fault are the gloves. How their bulky design ruins the arm line. And there’s a ton of gloves like that, it’s such a shame tbh.

Hmmmm, interesting. I was thinking there’s a story behind why you have no belt. Something spicy to go with the promiscuous mog, like, “my panties drop faster this way”. :stuck_out_tongue:

Well you do have that curse thing going on. :stuck_out_tongue:

I wanted something that looked cool and ended up accidentally making a mog that looked like an elite rangari

hahahaha. now that you mentioned it, i like her mog way more.

about the thread, I dont really have lore for my mogs, however each of my mog is linked to some major event in wow that I was part of.
I got starting Mog (when i came back after 10 year break)
Mog where i lead my guild
mog where I got my first cutting edge
and currently working on my 4th mog - which I want to be in a “king” theme :joy:

Hahahaha, is nice, uniform like. Trooper!
Loving the dead animals around your neck. Realism, gotta keep those parts warm, lest you catch a cold.
Downside is, old ladies used to wear such scarves :stuck_out_tongue: (in times when the act of wearing fur wasn’t frowned upon)
