Players are not showing the fact that they dislike it, they just scream but play it. So clearly it’s successful
Because people discovered the word “FOMO” and now everytime something comes out, that they can’t get 10 Years into the future, by hitting a Boss one time for 100 of Millions of damage, they go up in arms.
Weirdly enough, noone cared about “FOMO” during WoW’s quote on quote “Peak”
They said you don’t need the latest expansion, in both cases.
You call that class tuning?
Its literally just ability description correction…
And MW gets buffed AGAIN. For no reason…
Ive waited 4 months for THIS ?
FOMO (god I hate this word ) barely existed in LK which was peak time for wow.
You had: Glad mounts, few titles and that’s it.
Transmog was introduced in MoP if i recall correctly, so except for the few, nobody cared about old dungeon farm as well, except maybe MC for Sulfuras and Thunder Fury.
To stay on topic:
I will try it but I’m not really hyped. Leveling is not something I enjoy so much (even with multiple alts), but MoP was great so will see.
If I can get the challenge set for my warrior, that would be a nice catch.
I’m not calling it anything. This is what is being datamined atm. So if you can’t wait to see what changes are coming in S4 officially, then this is your only source of info.
Do bear in mind nothing on the PTR is definite.
Black Proto Drake? Plagued Proto Drake? Black Qiraji Battle Tank during Vanilla? FOMO existed since forever, people just love to ignore it’s existence during those times.
Returning to MoP for real life spring season? Hell yeah. Cosmetic collection, some pve shenanigans, having some good time with one of the best wow expacs and keeping all the rewards for all my chars to use? What’s not to like.
And it even gives something to the professional complainer crowd to get aneurisms over.
Everybody wins.
Maybe my message is burried under 4 months of frustration :
My message is: Yes to more game modes (Plunderstorm and this new MOP thing).
But NOT at the expense of Retail maintenance.
And the least they could do is post 1 thing assuring us that they have not diverted resources from the most popular game mode by far (M+) to these “experiments”.
The whole point of S4 is to keep us entertained until WW. What is the point of doing it if instead they lauch these game modes?
Oh yes for sure, but from what you mentioned and what I wrote, there is not much more.
Now with this becoming a thing every 3-6 months, I can understand the complains. I personally don’t care, but I can understand why people start to get annoyed.
Anyway that’s off topic
Because there was no FOMO during WoW’s peak. Literally when new content came out, old content didn’t change. At all.
EDIT: Unless you count the tBC Gladiator mount, to be fair. There was that one.
That is a very bad example of FOMO. Precisely those were two rewards from Glory of Raid achievements that were removed and the backslash from the players were so great that Blizzard change its mind and to this day they haven’t removed any other Glory of Raid rewards.
That proves that FOMO didn’t exits back them becuase when they tried something similar it was such a failure that they never did the same again.
Of course there were a few things removed in the first expansions but back them it was so rare. And most of the time that “FOMO” was accidental. They were rewards removed because the source of it was removed.
A good example are ZulGurub mounts. Today are very rare becuase it was removed during Cataclysm, but those 2 mounts came from a Vanilla raid that was available for 3 and 1/4 expansions, and people solo the raids every week at least since WOTLK, some classes even in TBC. But the raid was replaced with a dungeon during Cataclysm. If Blizzard back them has made a different choice like reworking Kharazan today you woul be able to farm ZulGurub 60 instead of Kharazan 70.
This sounds interesting but confusing are we going to be 1 shotting everything and soloing dungeons raids?
Where is new content? You bring back old content all the time so what is going on? Something is wrong there!
Old God fish is sick
Thank you Blizzard for continuing to respect the achievement of skill-based rewards.
Ok FINE I’ll renew my 6 month sub, geez…
The only thing that worries me about this event is that it might imply no MoP classic will happen. Which would be an absolute warcrime against the playerbase.
You wouldn’t do that, right?
Loved MoP; love open world, love levelling, sounds right up my street … until I see I can’t play my own character yet again. I have a lot of lower level characters which would’ve been ideal for this, but no, I have to make yet another new and subsequently unwanted character.
Just like Plunderstorm, this choice to add temporary content and then take it away again rubs me entirely the wrong way. I love everything about this, it sounds great fun. I hate that it’s temporary and that existing characters cannot play - for absolutely no apparent reason.
You said at the start of Dragonflight that you learned from the past few expansions that spending development time on systems that are designed to be thrown away within a couple years is a waste of resources and you’re better off focusing on evergreen systems. Why have you utterly failed to take this lesson into any other aspect of the game? Why is 90% of the content you create designed to be entirely irrelevant within one minor patch? Why are you making zero effort to make content that people will have reasons to play for years to come?
If you’re worried about splitting the playerbase then put a temporary buff on the calendar so that it’s not the fastest levelling available outside of the buff window. But there’s literally no apparent reason to just take the entire thing away again.
This is exactly the sort of decision that makes us feel that you’re actively making the game less enjoyable to try and keep people subscribed for longer. Taking this away doesn’t seem to achieve anything except for putting pressure on people to stay subscribed and play while it’s active.
