This is a focused piece of feedback on Unholy Death Knight after the 12.0.5 changes. The general direction is appropriate for the spec. However, the current implementation is undermined by a number of mechanical inconsistencies and bugs that make the spec feel unreliable in practice.
Commander of the Dead
The most immediate issue is that several core interactions simply do not behave deterministically. Commander, for example, does not consistently apply to all pets it is supposed to affect. For a spec that derives a large portion of its damage from multiple pet sources, this is not a minor edge case. Previous atempts to fix the PTR Commander Bug just made it worse. as to where sometimes your ghouls dont get the buff until very late.
Dread and Virulent Plague
When Dread Plague and Virulent Plague are extended, their tick timing shifts in a way that does not match expectation. This is not limited to a single interaction, but it appears to occur after any extension. Since a significant portion of Unholy’s feedback loop depends on periodic damage events, this desynchronization has downstream effects.
Disease Cloud damage
There are also clear attribution issues. Disease Cloud damage is currently credited to the player instead of the Abomination, which prevents it from benefiting from pet damage modifiers. In a design that explicitly emphasizes pet amplification, this kind of inconsistency undermines the entire premise of those synergies.
Unholy Devotion
Unholy Devotion is another example where the implementation diverges from intent. It is currently granting haste, attack speed, and energy regeneration in a way that causes the ghoul to auto-attack and cast Claw far more frequently than expected. This distorts pet contribution and makes it difficult to assess actual tuning, since the behavior itself is incorrect.
Furher Bugs?
In addition, there are a couple of likely issues that need further verification. As of now it seems Magus summons sometimes appear to idle briefly after spawning, which reduces their effective contribution during short windows. Forbidden Knowledge also seems to proc less frequently than expected based on Dread Plague ticks; if this is due to normalization (for example with Ebon Fever), it is not documented and therefore not something players can reasonably account for.
The underlying problem across all of these points is not complexity, but inconsistency. Unholy is designed as a layered system where diseases, pets, and procs interact. That only works if each layer behaves predictably. At the moment, too many of these interactions are either bugged or opaque, which makes the spec harder to play and harder to evaluate than intended.
Fixing these issues would go a long way toward restoring clarity. The design direction itself is solid, but it depends on systems that currently do not behave in a stable or transparent way.
List of Bugs was taken from Acherus DK Class Discord, shoutout to the Goats who discovered these. Anyway, please fix fast, so that I’m any meaningful contribution to my guilds Lura progress tonight.
