We are in dire need of minimalism

When a blacksmith’s sword can be out-matched by an enchanted +1 damage sword, which in turn can be out-matched by a magical sword that can hurl an occasional fire ball, then your lore fine. (Consider that a gameplay example that can be translated to any general lore in game loot)

When a powerful Dragon can be defeated through the combination of steel, courage and magic by a group of weak individuals that shine through the heroic actions of coming together in a group, then your lore is fine.

When Demons threaten your world, and all races come together and combine their strengths to over-come their individual weaknesses and differences to achieve victory through sacrifice, loss and a terrible aftermath, then your lore is fine.

When even magic, and courage, and steel are not enough for an entire race and their Kingdom to prevent their ultimate destruction, because they were out-smarted and over-powered, then your lore is fine.

When two great warriors and strategists of the past return from space as beings with super powers that can grant them victory over their enemies, rather than knowledge and combat experience, then your lore is not fine.

When you get super angry and get back eyes and super celestial powers and can now achieve victory over your enemies, then your lore is not fine.

When the exceptional notions and powers over life, death and undeath can be constantly and casually toyed with, then your lore is not fine.

When dark and/vs light is not enough and darkest and/vs “lightest” (excuse the loose use of the word) is constantly too little, then your lore is not fine.

And so on…

We have caught ourselves in a never-ending loop, a vicious cycle, of over-empowerment and over-stimulation of lore (and game) progression and ideas. It is my belief that we need to tone things down and catch our breath. I am interested in your opinions on the matter.

You must been hiding under a rock since the past 20 years. It is a common and returning theme that the Alliance wins their wars through the super powers of a few super heroes, plot convinience and magical last minute mcguffins. There are plenty of examples for such situations. Without magical super heroes the humans and sidekicks faction would be dust already.

You lost your faith in human potential, Ireves. That’s why you joined the dark side, but there is still hope to come back and to embrace the full might of HUMAN POTENTIAL!

I would rather slit my wrists and delete the human Paladin before I become a full-time alliance main.

I certainly agree. Especially Legion was one of the worst expansions when it comes to the Rule of Cool; fighting an entire Titan while being wielding super weapons which are empowered by the powers of the Pantheon itself? Sure, why not. All while traveling through the entire cosmos, from planet to planet with a spaceship we have never seen before, fighting next to a famous Demon Hunter who was supposed to be dead.

It was quite touching that Blizzard wanted to return to the “core of World of Warcraft” by initiating a faction war which is so artificial that most of us were done with it before it even started. Azerite, seriously? A super-mineral? And the War of the Thorns? Burning of Teldrassil? Is this what WoW needs?

I have been saying this, again and again, what WoW really needs is a massive world overhaul, that will bring us back to the Old World, Outland, Northrend, whatever is possible, and we can go back to being Adventurers instead of Champions.

So I agree with this, completely. Blizzard has forgotten that we don’t need some epic storyline which involves every character ever written, dead or alive, we need a storyline that is not too controversial (so aren’t forced to do things our characters won’t do) or preferably not an overarching storyline at all.

Not at all. I have done so much daily world saving of Azeroth, that we, as PCs, deserve the spots as unchallenged faction leaders much more than the current actors at the top. Period.

Does anyone know on how many separate occasions Azeroth has been saved from destruction the last 20 ingame years, from the smallest sidequest to the biggest main storyline?

I remember reading somewhere we are well into the double digits.

I guess this is what they classically call “Spectacle Creep”, the bane of novice and professional writers alike who lack a unifying, long-term vision.
