What’s your opinion about the Devourer spec?

I’ve been playing the spec for several days now and have mixed feelings about it. It seems to shine in Mythic+ later in the season. With some luck, it might even become one of the best specs there.

However, from my experience so far, it doesn’t feel well designed for PvP. Once the one-shot build is gone, there isn’t much left for the spec. I also tested the pure caster build with and without annihilator. Both versions are solid, but the damage is mostly sustained. There’s no real burst, and it can be easily countered in PvP.

It’s a new spec with great animations, and the gameplay feels nice. But once gear improves and the one-shots are no longer viable, I’m afraid it could become one of the weaker PvP specs due to the lack of burst, strong CC, or defensive tools.

I honestly can’t decide whether I should continue playing this spec or stick with my warlock, mage, or evoker.

yeah melee’s burst was too op and it was tuned down, and it will be kept tuning down probably, caster as you said really good with sustain but burst does feel missing. Collapsing star is hard to get and despite them saying that soul loss was removed it still happens now and again.

Also it hits too little in pvp. Apex talent might remedy that but until then there isn’t much there can be done for burst (for caster).

It also lacks healing, havoc doesn’t have any hard defensives either (iceblock, darkpact, divine shield, aspect of turtle, dispersion) etc but it at least has FAR more healing, I still think that they should either give devourer a healing ability on cd (like the one it had on alpha) or increase the orb healing from 1% to 2%

Spec was probably built/designed to work correctly only with the 1st and 4th apex talents so wait & see.

I had big hope about playing like old SP spamming everything, not missing a beat to spam those collapsing stars but for now it feels too weak and an actual dps loss…

My DH was already 80 so i didn’t level as devourer but it’s probably not a fun experience when i see how it plays and need a bunch of talents and haste before having a smooth rotation

the spec was designed around apex talents so it will do better at lvl 90 but so as all classes ! blizzard improved on the damage of spec but not the gameplay or rotation , i see a lot of people asking for on demand aoe skill and i totally understand think of havoc you got blade dance we dont have something like that ! oh no wait we do its called Hungering Slash cool skill with awesome animation but locked behind voidblade , i really hope if Hungering Slash became a separate skill our on demand aoe like blade dance with similar cool down and void blade resets its cool down instead giving us the skill it would give us our on demand aoe skill and improve our rotation it would be a win win , tell me what do you think

which is a sentiment i can absolutly not understand…

We have a short ramp up time in the beginning of anything, if we look at a dungeon its even less significant, than a raidboss, as we just carry over ressources from one pull to the next..
after that, if you are speced properly, you do like 2 maybe 3 devour, then are back to eye beaming, after which your reap becomes an aoe nuke.
then bring the proper hero talents and you get even more aoe ontop of that.

its not only about getting to your first void beam then everything becomes better also its not a short ramp i lose most of lust duration till i ramp up and start my rotation , i understand to some people the way the spec works right now it suits them but not for the majority , rotation is kinda boring and our main aoe hitter is Eradicate and yes void beam does aoe damage but its weak
Hungering slash is already there why not make it more accessible in general and move it to the beginning of the tree so both void scarred and anniliator have it ! that was the point from the beginning a hybrid spec that goes in do mele damage retreat back continue mid rage .
one more point even as simple as it is for farming old content that most of us love doing already u kill mobs with 1 hit and loot try doing that on devour you got only consume to press but when you have Hungering slash on 5 sec Cd it will be a blast .

I can understand both sides tbh. A better solution would be to change the apex talent on the right side, which in turn for one just straight up gives reap a 5 target capped cleave, which then also gets uncapped and enhanced after eye beam. That way we have at least some cleave outside of eyebeam and cooldowns xD.

Don’t know what they’ve done but my guilds evoker is absolutely melting things on the dps right now, its wild. I think theyre more fun than the Devourer too, just wish they didnt look like stupid man lizards or I’d play one

Something that occured to me is that we have lirerally no on demand self healing.

Every other class can heal themselves or has a shield ability.

What we could use is a 30sec cd that consumes souls and actively heals us for the amount of souls consumed, like a conditilnal crimson vial.

my evoker is 2 shotting most mobs, while mt devourer casts a whole bunch of attacks, which dosnt help that collapsing star barely castable without the extra midnight stuff.

its like playing half a class

Devourer already does more damage than Havoc if you have +30% haste. At 90lvl with apex talents and set bonuses Collapsing Star will do way more damage than we are doing now. So we are missing alot currently.
