It does in fairness say which player stealthed - but it doesn’t distinguish horde from alliance - you still have to check list to see if its horde or alliance - and even then you cannot ‘target’ stealthed players.
It’s utilizing information already available in the game.
But it does seem a bit unfair, if everyone doesn’t use it.
But then again. Having stealth and so on, is a massive advantage as well.
i used similar addon in vanilla, it’s always been there.
Like previous poster said, there existed addons like this in vanilla. Addons such as spy are nothing new and have existed for a very long time.
I myself used to run CombatSentryGizmo in vanilla. It even looks about the same as Spy.
Its not in the same ballpark at all! This addon is giving you information that you would not otherwise have. You wouldn’t be able to tell when someone is near you without this addon, period! If I understand it correctly this addon tells you when a enemy players is near.
What if that player is out of LOS, you would never been able to know he was there while this addon lets you know that he is. That is nothing but a cheat addon and you should be ashamed of defending it. Lets say you are questing in STV outside one of the caves there and theres a enemy player inside the cave that you can’t see because of the obvious lack of LOS, does this addon tell you that theres a player in that cave? If yes, then it’s cheating! This addon give you information, that you would not otherwise have. Hence it’s cheating!
Hunters have the ability to track humanoids and can see them on the minimap. This is a Hunter ability and now you have a better version of it. Thats cheating and nothing else! Wouldn’t be surprised if Blizzard even started banning people just for using it.

Yes, you can, because any information the addon uses is information available and visible in the game without it.
You do not understand what the addon does, but hey - ban, because I don’t like it.
Actually, you can.
Setup a combat log tab with a filter showing only enemy players actions.
As soon as something is displayed in that tab, it means that an enemy player is nearby. And by just looking at the action performed, you will know what class it is.
No addon used, only the basic original Blizzard UI.

Why don’t remove other addons also? like AH addons that post in stacks for you and make AH experience 10 times easier overall, scanning lots etc.
This whole banning addons outbreak make no sense to me, because you can ban them specifically and you can’t completely remove such a possibility from the game.
I like your nameplates point, and I know atleast 2 more addons that does exact same thing but they aren’t banned, and probably never will be unless they go viral.
Stop banning addons it make 0 sense and in fact setting an advantage for dedicated players on whole another level. Because they gonna use that sh*t in any case.
This spy addon also not only one of its kind, I have similar addon since week 2, it post info about enemy players in my chat box.
Half the people posting here have literally no idea what they are talking about, yet have very strong opinions on this matter.

EnemyCastBars gives you advantage in pvp. Weakauras gives advantage in pvp. A ton of other addons do as well.
cast bars gives only tactical option to see what you can interrupt etc. Which is fine considering, that you will zoom out anyway and you just can’t see chars hands. That is just stupid. Castbars are part of any modern mmo by now and ppl are used to it becasue it is just a qoL improvment. This addon on the other hand gives you too many shortcuts.
It’s like script macros, i’m glad they are not thing in classic.
So basically, you just don’t like it so it should be removed, in your opinion. Ok, well, probably not gonna happen just because of that.

Well guess what, Spy is a QoL improvement too. Unlike other addons it doesn’t actually help you in a fight.

no it goes far beyond qol. Becasue it does multiply things not just one like castbars.
Castbars is staple by 2019 and it being as an addon in classic is just QoL everybody is used by now.
This on the other hand is soft version of maphack.
