I play a Resto Shaman Healer and 90% of the time I don’t need to heal tanks at all, worst of all if everyone or most of us die, the tank can normally squash the last 5-10 million hp of a boss in M+ without ANY OF US!
This makes the holy trinity almost pointless! I also have great sympathy for any non plate wearing DPS because they almost need constant healing in most scenarios, whereas with Warriors/DK/Paladins DPS again I hardly need to heal those guys.
This is just an observation I’ve made and it feels REALLY REALLY unfair.
Now it may be the case that the DPS are crap because I have been with cloth/leather DPS that hardly took damage also but I still stand that the tanks are OP!
What do y’all think?
P.S. Just want to add that I know how to play my class Resto and I could NEVER solo a boss the way a tank does!
I wouldn’t say they’re OP in the terms of what the prot warrior was like in the first half of Season 1.
But they can hold their ground for a while before their cooldowns/defensives etc have all been used and then they’ll end up bring killed by the boss/mobs quickly.
DK tank has some great self healing and from what I’ve noticed can finish off a boss with under 10% hp by themselves, if everyone else is dead. But I personally can’t say that about the other tanks, as I’ve only experienced it maybe once or twice on this Warlock, while trying to get through the keys.
When you’re in higher keys, you’ll start to see the big hits that the tank will take and you will be on your tip toes dancing around the key to keep everyone, including the tank alive
Tank and healer are generally the lowest damage in a group.
If you push content high enough there will be instances where you simply can’t survive without the relevant gear/proper healing but there is awful lot of avoidable or interruptable damage too.
Game should go back to the times where:
DPS specs did dps and cc,
healers are healing,
tanks are taking the beating, maybe debuff enemies with demoralising shout or smth.
Why mages need Party shields? Why DK need antimagic zone? These should be healer / tank utility.
Why healers got interrupts?
Why DH has leech high enough to heal himself to full while in meta?
The game is still literally this… Its just that all the swirlies and mythic mechanics are aimed more at the dps players than the tank. Healers have to worry about huge damage spikes on DPS. And then tanks seem invincible to them cause their not aimed at and hit by as much, Besides tank busters.
I think they’ve made them like this due to popularity I don’t mind if a tank can help me managing the 3 kids doing stupid things.
This reminds me while I was lvling my Hunter: new tank was struggling so I asked my fellow Hunter to use MissD on the tank as I was using it on CD. His answer: why? Retail is made easy AF, same what happened with Diablo over the years so anyone with a thumb can play it. Timewalking is a good example on tanks mass pulling to oblivion and forgetting that old mobs had some stuff going on. Then you die, then you go “insert-surprised-pikachu-face” on why.
The old ways were slower, you had to plan a bit, the new is run and loot. As someone wisely said: “Time’s changed.”
Why can some healers do good dmg (looking at you druid and cat weave) ?
It gives a little something else. No tank can go an survive on their own from start to finish. Short term and some bosses a while yeah ok. But be honest if your on say the 2nd boss in Galakrons fall and you got timeways down to 10% and idk , say healer messes up a dispel or dps stands in the wrong place when debuff expires or whatever.
Do you really want to redo it all over again in a timed run ? Or are you happy enough for the tank to have just enough to be able to finish it off so the group can move on?
Lets take it another way, if a tank simply is meant to stand there and be a whacking pole for boss and trash, wheres the enjoyment and fun ? Right now we have a hard time finding healers as healing is not as enjoyable, do you really want tanks to go into short supply too ?
Tanks are the reason there is a timer in m+. If there weren’t, I’m convinced they could solo stuff up to +15.
There are so many hero moments for tanks this expansion. I say let them have it. They are the main protagonists and the rest of us exists to make the dungeon in time
Tanks were quite weak in SL at points and it wasn’t fun to play being squishy as hell and having to be babysat because you were just one slap away from death the whole pull.
Sure, make them weaker and get longer queues, sounds like a solid plan.
Tanking in SL was very different from now, as back then we had to literally kite all the time. People were saying there is not enough tanks (perhaps true because I earned quite a lot by selling tanking service - both gold or other favours).
I would say the situation with tanks is similar to healers - our roles have been under so much pressure all the time. Basically we who remained on these roles, were pushed to forge ourselves so much, that it has effect on the flow of the gameplay, e.g. you need to heal only DPSers not knowledgeable of the dungeon etc. And over time that spills into proficiency.
