I have a question: do you get panda race at launch, or do you need to play the expansion first to unlock it?

As I recall, it was available from the start. It was an entirely new race, long before the concept of “allied races” and their respective unlocks were introduced.

I wont play single classic ever again but I did like having stun on mage back in pandaria

Panda was at launch of mists, however originslly you would play your chosen panda class then right at the end uou would pick your faction.
A nice choice indeed and one that was lost as the game progressed.
What gets me is if you get alli panda and horde panda why can they not understand eachother theyre literally from the same place.
For the sake or role play they could have been freinds all their lives to suddenly not understand what language theyre speaking makes no sense to me, nor does it with evokers and velf belf u have to use their own dialect to chat.
Another funny thing i found out was that if you got turned into a zombie in the wrath event along with opposite faction they could talk normally and understand eachother.
