Why is ARTHAS such a big deal?

Howdy folks, Why is it after everything I understand about this Arthas npc he is such a big deal?
The only thing he did was bring death, ruin and destruction… Yet somehow almost everyone seems to be his fanboy or fangirl.
Have people all sunken so low that they think that only death and destruction is good storywriting? Because if thats the case then thats just sad…

Probably a sentimentality hang-up from the WotLK expansion which is so fondly remembered by the older players still around.

Because it comes from a time when the storyline was beyond good, it was truly epic. Today the game and the story is a mere shadow of what it was and meant to people.

Arthas is by far the most iconic character Warcraft ever had, and they pulled the dirty on 'em.
Instead of beautifully concluding Uther’s arc, maybe having Jaina say a word or two, they just threw more Sylvanas at us and called it a day.
Disgusting.

But I am guessing you are baiting for replies.

I am just trying to understand why most people act like such fanboys… and you say he is “iconic” then tell me in what way? what did he do that makes him so special? is it perhaps he annihilated most of the blood elfs ? or that he hunted a dread lord all the way to northrend?

Well forest trolls tried this many times and failed so sounds like quite the feat.

I’d tell you, but your obvious lack of taste prevents understanding.

No idea, for me he is nothing more than a prairie dog. I honestly do not like hoomans in WoW, so that is it. Got really fed up with hoomans and firewood people every single expansion.

Probably because he represents the iconic chad white anti-hero, for males with raging insecurities. Arthas even had ‘Domination’ armour.
…although there were rumours circulating in Icecrown, he also had a waifu pillow.

I think the same for sylvanas.

And yet she’s more popular for some reason.

Two reasons…and my eyes are up here.

three, depends on how/what you count.

Oh vey… Where to even begin… it all goes back to the earliest 2000’s and we where all playing Wc3 Following Arthas story. From falling from a Heroic prince who would do anything to save his people… To the point he fell and became everything he fought against and lost his soul while doing so.

Arthas commited great evil on Azeroth. But everyone back then and who even played WoW since wrath of the lich king. Knew that his soul was forfeit when he took up Frostmourne in Wc3.

People don’t feel empathy for the Lich king here. But the heroic Prince he was before.

The jailer. And Ner’zhul used his will and rash determination to do good against him. To the point of loosing his own soul in the process.

In several lore sources. And the book Arthas rise of the Lich king. We have been told several times that a part of Arthas Humanity always still survived within the Lich king.

He always kept jaina’s locket with him. And the Human part of Arthas was what held back the Lich king from unleashing the Undead scourge to go on a genocidal rampage on Azeroth always holding them in line. After Arthas where killed. and Bolvar took on the Helm of domination. Bolvar continnued to hold back the Scourge against Ner’zhul as best he could. Until Sylvanas shattered it… Hence why we got our pre expansion launch event.

So anyway yeah… We care about the prince of Lordearon… not the Lich king he became…
And after all that suffering and torture he went trough since picking up Forstmourne. All that became of him was a 35 Anima speck of light orb… That didn’t even get any judgement. Redemption… Or afterlife.

Either you die as a hero or you live long enough to become a villain.
That was Arthas, a human like me and you who gave up his soul trying to save his people. He failed and he fell under corruption and injustice, becoming one of the principles he was fighting against.
That why Arthas is so important. He’s here to remind us that even the best of us can fail, can fall victims of bad ideologies, and become evil in the process. He’s here to remind us to keep fighting for the good and not falling into evil temptations.
We are just humans.

(Fk i sound like a catholic priest lol :joy:)
