So am i, its an immortalized reminder of 1x day of RP i couldn’t enjoy for a second while his presence lasted
pretty sure i’ll be in a second one of his videos too, i found him doing one of his “why ?” videos, this one seemed to be about forsaken
Oh? What video was that?
The one in orgrimmar where he kept screaming about vanilla ice cream bc of the Classic launch. I’m Vaoto
is that the one where hoc tried to arrest him lmao
I miss the Kakio de la renard thread, back when I was forum banned for 3 months
I like his videos. Some are a bit cringe, especially the older ones. But I feel like he got better over time. He learned to improve his RP and that’s a good thing imo. It’s ofc not perfect, since his topics more or less come from the real world, but the way he goes about it is enjoyable, I think. Especially the worgen and forsaken videos.
I even have to admit, though I’ve always been drawn towards RP, I was always a bit scared to jump into it. Seeing how the RPers reacted to Kakio (the ones who stayed IC ofc) gave me a very positive impression of the RP community and it’s what made me finally get into it.
So, from that personal experience, I think his videos do more good than harm.
i would have to disagree, to be honest
from the perspective of someone who rps in orgrimmar almost every day, the number of ooc players who think its a hilarious bit to grief roleplay with their goofy real world topics, only rise when youtubers and/or streamers put focus on our realm
i am not against a content creator making content on our realm, so long as they genuinely rp. -that- kind of exposure does good, and would bring more rpers to argent dawn. but when it’s people like kakio, who are fully aware they’re bringing irl topics to world of warcraft rp and continously does it because it gets him content, it encourages a lot of other oocers to do the same thing, because they find it hilarious
from those personal experiences, i think his videos do more harm than good
This.
When a lone tool does it, it’s isolated. It disrupts RP and so is obviously not on, but at least the tool is isolated.
When a streamer with a throng of sycophants who follower their every word because of some numbers in their screen does it, then it’s not isolated because if only one of their fans thinks “I’ll try that too”, that person has multiplied the problem.
The only good publicity a streamer can generate for AD is either engaging in RP or showcasing some of the cool plots without obstructing or interfering. Maybe a brief OOC chat with an RPer to talk shop about the realm.
But this is not that. This is jarring content that attempts to catch 22 RPers by not being outright trolly like mammoth spam, but being OOC enough to break immersion, and them you’re called out as a bad sport if you don’t like it because they were “in the spirit”.
I don’t give a flying toss. It’s still disruptive, it’s still poking fun of AD and runs in the current of “zoo” views on the server which is NOT what the server needs.
A zoo is crap if it’s full of 10000000 people and 2 animals. We don’t need spectators we need animals so either get in the cages or help look after the animals. Lie to yourself all you want but spectating in a zoo does nothing to help the things you’re watching. It might make you feel like it does, but it doesn’t.
I’m glad to hear, but that’s, as you said, the RP community being overall nice.
With this I have to disagree somewhat. The fact that it got you interested is nice (and btw, I had fun RPing with you tonight in Orgrimmar ), but it doesn’t change the fact that when Kakio goes to get footage for his memey videos, it affects the people RPing nearby in a negative way.
As I said before, he’s a mixed bag.
Mixed stance. I don’t follow the guy and the one time I saw his reporter character in I think stranglethorn… honestly I found him a disruptive influence. But that seemed the minority view as a lot the rpers present ran with what he was doing so he apperantly doesn’t cause that much harm in most peoples eyes, so fair enough.
Wouldn’t ignore him, but wouldn’t really hang around either. Must admit if he wasn’t, or I didn’t know he was, a youtuber recording for laughs I’d probably treat him, as others have said, like a new rper and cringe a bit but run with it at least for a little while. So… yeah mixed.
On the sub-topic on tali and co, used to like the guy but he’s evidently a dingbat. Guy needs to take himself elsewhere.
ahhhh dingbat is putting it lightly
I’m glad to hear, but that’s, as you said, the RP community being overall nice.
True. It’s more that the people he meets get a bit of spotlight in his videos and if it’s IC RPers, they do the good representation in those videos, not Kakio himself. I do feel though (just rewatched his Nightelf video), he takes at least some of the criticism to heart and tries to tone down the disruptiveness.
it doesn’t change the fact that when Kakio goes to get footage for his memey videos, it affects the people RPing nearby in a negative way.
That is true, of course. Judging by the other comments here, disruptions by the OOC crowd are more frequent than I thought. I’ve been lucky so far, never to encounter a serious disruption, but most of my characters aren’t on (active) RP servers, so I miss a lot of action happening there.
and btw, I had fun RPing with you tonight in Orgrimmar
Same!
Hehe, I like that word
“Nah bro we’re just RPing”
Swedish chatter in /S on the background
I guess there is that and I tenatively agree that it might encourage some people but also it encouraged unfunny copy-cats also
I’d actually say the reverse though I’m not a Kakio scholar or w/e. At the start he just seemed like a very new RPer but when people began to recognise him the roleplay became more and more outlandish to the point that they were referencing youtube IC
Several of his older videos even the ones that doesnt go into RPing/Argent Dawn actually do have a semi-kind of Roleplay or lore approach to them, talking about the things with, albeit a bit of a new/beginner kinda style like you said, on how things are in the world rather than the game.
Much like you, its his later videos, especially the little series pretty much dedicated to just troll RP servers with memey topics, that I dislike personally.
At the start he just seemed like a very new RPer but when people began to recognise him the roleplay became more and more outlandish to the point that they were referencing youtube IC
In his newest “Why…?” video, he seemed to be very serious about treating RP with respect and not being too meta. Though maybe I’m just overlooking stuff, because I like the guy I try to be objective, but I’ll admit I might be more inclined to forgive him 'cause I find him funny (mostly. His Zulzulzul video was extreme cringe, I could hardly watch ^^").
I do however have the sneaking suspition, he’ll do future videos on other characters, precisely so players won’t recognize him; bc he mentioned it’s “the last footage” of this reporter.
He pays a subscription to enjoy the game the way he wants to enjoy it. So long as he’s not causing me any issues in the moment, he’s not problematic for me.
He’s entertaining. Give him a break.
I honestly do not give a damn.
Is he absolutely clueless about RP?
Yes.
Does he make entertaining content?
Well, yes.
Does he state he has no issue with RP and what he does is just for entertainment purposes?
Yes, he does.
So anyone thinking he’s bad needs to get off their high horses and cut back from the elitism imo.
