World of Achievementcraft

Seems the game is just becoming more and more achievement focussed. Is it Blizzards way of trying to justify rerolling older content and trying to make it relevant? Dragonflight was way over the top when compared to all other expansions… Really hope its not the new standard.

It’s not achievement-focused, but achievements definitely require significant more time investment from players than in the past.

It’s not JUST achievements.

In every expansion, Blizzard is giving us more things to chase. Mounts, Pets, Toys, Achievements. As an example, I just asked Wowhead about Mounts by expansion:

Expansion Mounts
Vanilla 73
TBC 86
Wrath 106
Cata 60
Mists 120
Legion 124
BfA 158
Shadowlands 187
Dragonflight 202

Yes, we can see the Cata cuts, but the pattern is clear. And while TWW hasn’t reached 212 yet, it will no doubt have more by the end.

But let’s face it - most of it enjoy collecting more shinies, and from Blizzard’s point of view, it’s a cheap way to keep us more engaged with the game, and staying subbed for longer.

Honestly, while it may feel cynical and manipulative when you look at it along the axis of more rewards, with less meaning for each, it probably works out as a win-win when you factor in the extra enjoyment.

You may dislike some specific ways they make us get these shinies - I deeply resent Twitch Drops - but the general idea has to be judged from all aspects.

I do agree that they have been stretching it thin, and maybe far into the area of diminishing returns to the point of it turning negative. I personally notice that on pets, but I’m sure others are noticing it in other areas.
