Hi there WoW Classic enthusiasts, current Era players and maybe soon to be new members of the community!
I have not posted in a while and thought of giving you all a quick summary of how things are doing in Classic Era, more specifically in the Firemaw PvP cluster.
Pop numbers news & The impact of Wotlk → Population has stabilized at more or less double of what it used to be back in March/April. Pop is ergo at the healthiest it has ever been since the launch of the servers, and fortunately for us, Wotlk has had little to no impact on economy numbers and the running of raids. Whoever has made their mind to play Era is very much invested, and making us pretty resilient.
SoM Transfers are now open! → Some former SoM players have decided this week to transfer over to Era and join us. In my guild for example we have already had participating SoM players clearing Naxx. They are a great addition to our community and we hope they have a great time killing dragons with us.
Raiding scene news (Firemaw specific) → Horde guild The Gutter cleared Naxx 2 weeks ago for the first time since starting progression all the way from MC months ago. Leveling Horde guild Warpath is also starting a P1 progression raid this week to try and build a good team and clear all of the game’s content. On October 9th, Alliance guild ACTIVE has achieved a Naxx Classic Era EU/US speedrun record of 1h 7min! Horde guild Fun Police came close with a 1h 9min time, placing them on place #3 in the US/EU rankings.
PvP Scene news → PvP has seen a steady influx of new players over the last few months, which has ignited a lively discussion on our Era PvP dedicated discord server as well as daily WSG pops + dedicated weeekend bgs’ pops. Just last weekend, we managed to have AV open all Friday and also on Saturday evening.
On repeatable WBs quests and merging of servers → No news from Blizzard whatsoever as to a solution regarding repeatable WB quests + a better server composition for Era in general. Nothing that the community is not being able to work with, but two elements that could potentially have a great impact on long-term feasibility and Classic Era identity.
The benefits of this type of wow ‘expansion’ have been explained in detail many times in this forum → no rat race, character permanence, play at your own tempo, etc. Still, if any of you has any questions or is intrigued by the status of the community, feel free to come online and say hi. We will be happy to let you know how things are going and answer any further questions any of you may have.
Have a good time all of you and may see you in Azeroth!
motivation depends on your personal preferences.
you won’t get any fresh-like experience here.
I personally play it because I really don‘t want to start from 0 (or more accurately phrased, lack the motivation and time to regear and in special re-grind my pvp rank) again and any other wow expansion isn’t appealing to me.
in the absence of any reasonable vanilla WoW offering currently both official and unofficial era is it for me.
is it perfect? no
is it as busy as 2020 classic was? no
but it’s mostly nochanges vanilla and it’s not going away so I stay here.
it’s by no means a paradise, there are certainly issues but most of them I can deal or cope with.
sadly it’s getting not much attention from blizzard
Oink oink ! Don’t forget the two other horde side PvE raiding guilds !
-Rendez Vous- and -GmbH- are up to recruit more people to their roster for raids
Hopefully the transfer issue from SoM realms will be fixed in a quantifiable time.
They should hurry up on connecting all same-type realms though, because it would facilitate having consistent wpvp and twink brackets opening.
Not a lot of attention by Blizzard, true. Still, we have our place, so Blizzard granted us that - Cannot complain seeing how TBC did not get an Era version.
As for motivation - I do believe lots of people would enjoy playing this type of non rat race wow. If you want the other style, you got wotlk or retail to cater to your needs.
That does not change the fact Era is another version of the game available to anyone interested.
Blizzard posts are blue. I also do not recall any number points on any of them if the style is the issue.
Also, when I say “I have not posted in a while”, it means, Bananoid aka me, has not posted in a while. I post every now and then for reference, and my posts always contain the same title (with different months of the year).
Impersonating means going about as if I were a different person. Can’t find any reference in my post to anyone else.
Again, I am baffled, so from my side I will settle this here.
OP has in NO WAY, SHAPE, OR FORM attempted ‘‘Impersonating an Blizzard employee’’. I have no idea what you are on about, or how you managed to get that impression from his post.
Which class would you recommend for a casual player on era?
One that likely won’t reach 60 ever, but looks to enjoy the world with a potential for some dungeons sprinkled in.
I could create my 20th hunter or 5th mage, and be relatively happy. I also have scars from going healer or tank for leveling. Virtually open for anything but rogue. Top3 is even more helpful.
Have you considered a Warlock? I personally kind of don’t like pets, but as you play hunter, you propably do. It is also a good and fun solo class, in case you don’t find groups for a while.
If you want something very easy and straight forward I would recommend Paladin. While leveling you can easily both heal and tank in dungeons as DPS spec/gear if you desire to mix it up.
The Paladin’s playstyle and abilities are VERY straight forward, and you have tons of utility to ensure that you can solo about anything when it comes to questing.
