WOW is now officially The Sims / Pokemon and a great RPG no more

After 21 years of playing WOW I have finally with great sadness decided to quit for good. Whilst a lot of people welcome player housing I personally think it is the final nail in the coffin of a once great game. And before you all start wading in with insults here is why. The game was fantastic back 20 yrs ago with vast zones to explore and all manner of challenges to overcome with great group content encouraging engagement with other players. But over time the changing tastes of players have seen Blizz implement several systems that have taken it away from its original aims and not in a good way. These days it is purely a kill and collect game where you are swamped with endless outfits, toys, pets to go and collect and now this has been made worse with housing. It will suit the pokemon/sims type players but apart from that the game offers very little else now and it suits Blizzards model of cash grabbing at every turn. I hoped housing would be different but sadly it is not and just another form of pet battles / transmogs and a step too many for me. Was fun while it lasted but all good things come to an end I guess.

How is having your own house not an RPG feature.

It was inevitable. MMOs don’t survive years, let alone decades by doing the same thing over and over, we need new features. But you are wrong about it being some sims pokemon crap. Housing was one of the most popular MMO features. So don’t act like WoW suddenly turned into something else, especially when housing has been one of the most requested features across the history of this game.

Errm.

Collecting stuff and things like housing have been a staple of RPG’s for decades.

But they will gut the pokemon/pet battles in midnight :sob:

This game has taken so many “final nails” to its coffin that its coffin must be at least 98% metal by now.

I was not hyped for housing at all and I am a Pokemon addict. I don’t see the connection.

Just be glad the housing in WoW isn’t like the housing in Skyrim.

Everyone would be done with it in one day.

It’s not realistic Puny.
Everyone has a house
There’s no HOA
There’s no taxes
There’s no crippling debt.

Completely immersion breaking.

The pokemon reference was really to the Pet battles and collecting of pets not the housing feature. I have no issue with housing in the game just how it has been done. I feel the game is all about just going about collecting endless toys, pets, transmogs and now decor and that it had become too saturated with just that sort of content and not much else. If people like it thats fine but I was just highlighting it wasnt for me. I admit to put it on a forum was dumb but I just feel sad that the game is now like this.

That’s fair.

I now see what you mean, since in Pokemon you “catch ‘em all”. I don’t really like collecting so I just build a crew and keep them most of the game. So I missed that completely.

Some people just like collecting stuff.

I doubt this is the thing that kills WoW, and I don’t even like housing. Maybe wait for the addon apocalypse idk.

Mythic+, raiding, delves, pvp, questing, being a freaking ah goblin, how does collecting prevent any of that? And no one is forcing anyone to collect, many people don’t even play that way. Sounds like you just have a problem with people having more options to pass time in the game, and you want the game to be again like it was 20 years ago when there were less things to do, and more people concentrated on those few things. In which case, have you tried Classic? Sounds like it’s what you would want.

I think it was always going to be “another thing to collect”, regardless if they made it more appealing to me or not. How did you expect it to be different?

I don’t see how they could make it different, unless you are talking about housing having real impact on gameplay with certain utility features, which is a no-no. Players shouldn’t be forced to engage with it, at least on that part, it’s good as it is. Just a house to collect and pass the time.

Can I have your gold.

No it’s mine, i spent 50k on garden furniture and plants.

My garden is slooking super spanky.

I might forget the interior and just spend all my spare time in my glorious arboretum.

We need more trees.

You do know that housing was originally planned to be released in VANILLA wow, right?

I kinda want to see a picture of it now that you’ve hyped it up. :squinting_face_with_tongue:

But wow has survived 20+ years without it? Housing itself is not the issue but the amount of wasted dev time to add it is. The rest of the game gets neglected while they add another way to monetize a game that already requires a subscription and to buy each expansion. If housing is such a make or break deal then why have games that had it died and been forgotten?

Because unless the game was called Architect Simulator, Bricklayer Simulator or Interior Decorator simulator housing was not the reason they died.

It hasn’t. All sorts of features were added over time. Housing was gonna come eventually, we all knew it when the messed up garrisons.

Post screenshots plz, I need some inspiration!
