Diablo IV – VRAM memory leak and freezes when entering dungeons Radeon RX 9070

Description:

I am experiencing a consistent issue in Diablo IV where the game gradually consumes increasing amounts of VRAM over time, eventually leading to severe stuttering or complete freezes—especially when entering new dungeon instances.

What happens:

  • VRAM usage continuously increases during gameplay and does not get released

  • After ~30–90 minutes, VRAM usage becomes very high (close to maximum)

  • When entering a dungeon or new area, the game freezes or hangs

  • In some cases, it results in a driver timeout or requires force closing the game

Hardware:

  • GPU: AMD Radeon RX 9070 / 9070 XT

  • CPU: ryzen 5 7600

  • RAM: 32 gb

  • OS: Windows 11 (latest updates)

Graphics Settings:

  • Texture Quality: Medium

  • Ray Tracing: Off

  • FSR / DLSS: Off

  • Resolution Scale: 90%

  • FPS limit: 60

  • Other settings mostly medium/low for stability

Troubleshooting already done:

  • Clean driver installation (DDU)

  • Tested multiple AMD driver versions

  • Increased pagefile size manually

  • Lowered graphics settings significantly

  • Disabled overlays and AMD features (Anti-Lag, Enhanced Sync, etc.)

  • Cleared shader cache

  • Verified game files

Important observation:

  • Changing texture quality (e.g. Medium → High → Medium) temporarily resets VRAM usage, which strongly suggests a memory leak

  • Issue is most noticeable when loading new areas (dungeons, teleporting)

Expected behavior:

  • VRAM should be properly released over time

  • Game should not freeze when entering new areas

Actual behavior:

  • VRAM usage keeps increasing

  • Game becomes unstable and eventually freezes

Same here. I get a driver timeout with a crash.
