WoW Classic only works with DX11

Hello all,

I know that there are some DX mentioned threads around, but i guess my problem is specific.

WoW Classic (Wotlk)/Retail, is starting from the Battle.net launcher without any problems, using DX12.

When i want to login to WoW Classic (eg. SoD) the wow.exe won’t even start… When i launch it with -d3d11 parameter, it works like a charm.

Anybody experienced the same?

Hi, try starting the game but simply let it load for three to five minutes. Even though it seems nothing happens or it might have crashed, it should start after a couple of minutes using DirectX 12.

It’s a known bug introduced with the 10.2 branch and it seems like it has been brought over to Classic as well.

Thank you very much for your reply, it worked after ~ 4minutes.

Have a nice day and lets hope this bug gets fixed soon

You’re welcome, the game should launch as usual from now on, so you don’t always have to wait a couple of minutes. That is until you update your graphics drivers, after which WoW requires the same long loading time.

It for sure hasn’t been fixed on 10.2.5 Release Candidate, which got loaded onto the PTR yesterday, I just hope they at least fixed the more concerning DX 12 issued, otherwise us Radeon users will be ready for a bumby ride… :unamused:
