Hi,
I tried to remove my lost phone number and it wanted me to verify via the old number so I contacted the support, then someone wanted me to send my ID card photo even if I have a secret question I could answer.
Support member also said that he hopes I understand why he wants my ID, even if he didnt even try to explain the reason.
I just want to say what you are doing here is not right and also that you are partly responsible (not legally ofc) for endangering personal iformation of your customers no matter if you want it or not:
- Why someone would want my ID if I can answer secret question.
I offered answer and it was ignored by Blizzard support. - My PC could be infected and my personal iformation could be stolen by third party while sending ID via internet.
- You claim you will delete ID picture after verifying which is in fact impossible if you wont destroy the drive physicaly.
Every even wiped data can be recovered no matter if you use professional wipe program or not. - You could have an employee, who is stealing and selling personal information this way and you would never know.
This happens often. - You are making excuses for security measurements,
which works for you,
but this is the exact opposite for you customers.
You are willing to endanger their identities to have a potentially less problems with account theft law suits that cost you money if there is not some more sinister reason from your side noone is aware of.
I dont understand why you would want my ID,
only I understand is this works for you because people are unaware the risks they are taking while sending any personal information via internet and they are not aware this could ruin their entire life.
Will you refund my life after my identity will be stollen ?
Would you send me YOUR ID ?
I dont think so…
What I can recommend to people is not using pre-paid mobile services or use that one you can transfer the number from if you loose you phone,
because there is no way to change or remove your phone number from your account if you cant verify from lost phone.
If you send your ID you can also go and sell you personal information yourself.
What I can recommend to Blizzard is to atleast warn people about this while they are making or securing their accounts so they can use the number they cant loose.
