Blocking people across all games and in battle.net is convoluted, odd and needs more care. What I want to focus on in this post is blocking on battle.net and how it doesn’t make sense to me.
I don’t see why there is yet a separate page for blocks on the battle.net options menu where you can enable\disable certain actions that happen before initiating a block, during it, after removing it, etc…
let that be your “default” preferences for blocking people in general, and when you want a certain blocked account to behave differently than the default preferences, give the option to change certain things related to that account without it having to apply to other blocked accounts, here are examples of preferences you should be able to toggle on\off on said block preferences panel:
Automatically removes and deletes all the chat history with that account?(Yes\No)
Automatically removes that account from your friend’s list? (Yes\No)
Have Blocking remove that account’s ability to friend the blocking account? (Yes\No)
Censor messages sent by the blocked account on the chat history? (Censor\Censor with an ability to click to reveal specific messages\no censoring)
Have the choice whether you want to be able to send messages as the BLOCKING (and not the BLOCKED) account. (like seriously, why shouldn’t the account that blocks be able to send messages? it is the one BLOCKING).
Have the ability to see the blocked account on others’ friends lists? (Yes, show them\No, Hide them)
I would come up with more, but the blocking system in general is too vague on what it actually does when you use it, so I’d be glad if this is too much to ask, at the very least have an information screen pop up when you’re about to block someone that explains every consequence that comes with taking that action.
