Developed for Activision by Carol Shaw, River Raid is considered one of the first top-down shooter games. Selling just over a million copies on the Atari 2600 (the game was also ported elsewhere, such as Intellivision and Colecovision), River Raid is still a real challenge. Swiping on rivers, blowing up ships and helicopters, and grabbing fuel supplies to stay aloft requires real skill and focus after the first 10 minutes or so.
