Cannot install Diablo 2

I downloaded the latest Diablo 2 and LoD installer from my account page. After running it on my Windows 10, I can get to the step where I type in my CD-key. after I press OK, the installer goes unresponsive and has to be shut down from task manager.

Things I tried:

  1. running as admin
  2. turning on Secondary logon
  3. compatibility mode with WinXP SP2 and SP3, also in 16bit color scheme
  4. disabling my antivirus
  5. disabling my VPN software

Anything, anyone?
