Today i decided to clean my pc, i reinstalled windows, installed chrome, installed geforce experience and then the battle.net client. Just 4 things. So trust me, i have the latest drivers, no cache folders, no history of any game/client/driver whatever.
I run the client and it says: Updating Blizzard Agent…
I kept it open for a long time and it keeps saying this.
This is weird:
- i have an out of the box windows installation. Nothing fancy about it.
- i have no caching problems of old games, installation files, etc
Conclusion: it doesnt work out-of-the-box. At least not for me. So what’s so special about my installation? Its clean! Whats different from other people’s computers? My hardware?
I searched, i googled, i did everything people say it would help. It didnt.
Now… digging in deaper. The log file of battle.net is showing the real error:
Its going to download the agent. Great \o/ Thats what i need:
Agent is missing. Will download Agent.
But then:
-
W 2020-06-30 19:17:46.371022 [Main] {164} Downloader - {164} WRN (d:\buildserver\bna-2\work-git\bootstrapper-repository\contrib\contrib\bnl_dl2\fetcher\source\fetcher\httpfetcherimpl.cpp, line 2080): HTTP: connection timeout for ‘137.221.64.2:80’
-
E 2020-06-30 19:17:46.371171 [Main] {164} Downloader - {164} ERR (d:\buildserver\bna-2\work-git\bootstrapper-repository\contrib\contrib\bnl_dl2\fetcher\source\fetcher\httpfetcherimpl.cpp, line 392): HTTP: connection failed for host 137.221.64.2:80: NET_CANCELED
Also good to know, log files are stating:
- The client agrees in an admin on my system: “Elevation is unnecessary. The current user is an administrator.”
- I decrypted the “embedded data found in binary” but only got a client_id (oauth?) which i wont post here. Not relevant.
So, i cant reach those ip adresses: timeouts, cancels, fails.
- I tried to ping some of the ip addresses in the shell and got a proper response back, the servers are active.
- Disabling Windows Firewall completely didnt help, giving all traffic rights in windows defender advanced rules didnt help
- Running as admin (client says i am admin) or win 8 compatibility mode doesnt help
- clearing cache (which i dont have except logs) doesnt work, also its not the problem here, getting connected is.
Is there someone who can help me further? Im getting frustrated and i have no ideas. This is a clean install of my pc + blizz client should be a walk in the park.

OPINION
same, just followed blizzard instruictions, they have no instruction from here:DDD
btw i really like how blizzard “technical” support works: if reinstall doesnt work please reinstall
THE PROBLEM
Installation stuck with “Updating Blizzard Agent”
or
Update agent is stucked with error
THE CAUSE
the program is working on a “file infinitly”, trying to reach a server but its overused
HOW TO SOLVE
just wait untill their servers have time for you (as i read previous posts, this always occurs when they release a new update, wait a lot of hours)
DOES BLIZZARD SUPPORT TEAM WORTH ANYTHING?
dont think so
(just labeled the comment to make it easier to the lazy ones)
You’re right about the solution. I found out last night myself but was not allowed to send a reply to this post (should have updated the original post).
I think it was 2-3 hours just to download the client core, and some more to get the files (250 mb).
My gf told me some update of COD was out and pointed me to a connectivity message of blizzard. Also twitter wasnt too happy about the Blizzard infrastructure. So i guess i just had bad luck when i decided to clean my computer on the same moment Blizzard servers are not responding
But… tbh, the client is bad. Bad user interaction. People think its stuck!
You should at least show the user some sort of progress. You cant keep them in the dark for 3 hours. Thats insane. The log files are showing the client is connecting and failing, over and over. Every minute. At least show us that. Its usefull information, we will know its still trying. Perhaps even instruct the user after 30 attempts to try it later or maybe let the client get some meta server data so it can state the servers are kinda busy. Something!
I really hope someone at Blizzard does something with this feedback. I tried to be as positive as i can.
Also. Blizzard doesnt give support on firewalls, routers or ISP’s. But clearly this client problem im having is an issue of Blizzard. Im afraid a lot of tickets are filed under “firewall related problem” and not handled at all by their support. While they should. Fixing the client to give more feedback to the user will decrease the number of tickets and angry users.
And just an idea, why not decentralize the downloads and spread the load? I dont mind to torrent and help other gamers by uploading bits. Blizzard will only have to setup some trackers.
Hello! We’re very sorry to hear that you’re experiencing issues installing.

If issues persists please see:
We also advise making sure that your windows install drive has at least 10GB of free space, and that you do not install games on an external hard drive.
Thanks for the default reply. If you would have read my post you’d know the problem was your servers. Not the firewall, not the battle.net cache folder, not old drivers, etc. Spamming all default support solutions will hopefully help someone.
I still hope you guys do something with my suggested ideas. I still think blizzard is a community driven company making money
