For reference, this is about TBC classic. The idea of a mega servers where everyone plays together seems quite appealing: always players to buy stuff, always players selling stuff, minimal queue times, busy group finder etc.
These are all good things but they fail at the community level:
- Resource / profession gathering is a joke (bots are everywhere, electric eels anyone?)
- Quest zones are over contested, even for low level alts
- Toxicity is rampant (mostly due to the above)
- Everyone is replaceable / disposable - don’t like the healer, boot → queue → get another
The community was what made classic / tbc a great place to be. The mega servers have failed this. Blizzard for whatever reason fail to recognise it.
So what’s a good solution? I don’t think they will change anything for TBC, and that is a shame, my sub will be cancelled end of this month because of this. If there is another re-make, I hope that Blizzard think long and hard about how the community rather than the tech.
