I bought the battle chest to play the good ol’ War2 on slow days in the office, but every single time I try to open it, it returns an OpenGL 4.6 error. Yeah, the GPU isn’t state-of-the-art, but neither is War2. And WoW plays perfectly fine. So if WoW works fine, there’s no reason for War2 to be causing issues. And yet. There is no info on the possibility of running the game with a flag like “-graphicsapi d3d” (or dxyy), so after a few hours of fighting against the “small indie company” bs all I could do was to return the purchase.
And it sucks. I love the entire trilogy, and I DO want to play it, but alas, a 25 year-old game tells me my OpenGL is too old… if I find a solution I will happily buy it again. That being said, if anyone has any idea how to bypass this ridiculous requirement (e.g. by forcing d3d/dx), I’m all ears.
Hi all, It seems I found a solution a few minutes ago. I experienced the OpenGL error on an old notebook (on my main PC WC II remastered worked fine): an HP Notebook Envy 17 with Windows 10 Home, Intel HD graphics Video Card and NVIDIA GeForce 740M £D Card.
I just changed the settings by telling Windows (right click on the desktop icon) to use exclusively GeForce and it worked fine. The only lasting issue seems now to be slow intro video.
